CSU enters weekend with five wins in last six outings
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – After playing its first 10 matches of the spring season away from home, the Colorado State tennis squad will host Omaha and Presbyterian this weekend in Fort Collins.
The Rams will play Omaha on Saturday at 1 p.m. MT at the CSU Tennis Complex (Google Maps), then face off against Presbyterian on Sunday at 8 a.m. MT at the Fort Collins Country Club (Google Maps).
For those that cannot make it out to the courts this weekend, the events will be streamed live at CSURams.com/live. There will also be live scoring available at CSURams.com/tennislivestats.
The squad is eager to play in front of a home crowd for the first time this year.
"We should have beautiful weather on Saturday and we hope a lot of people come out to watch us," CSU head coach Jarod Camerota said. "We get really good crowd support. We're thrilled to play at home, and it will be the first time for our freshmen to see what our crowds are like."
CSU is 6-4 this season, having won five of its last six matches. Freshman Emma Corwin was a standout performer for the Rams in wins over Western Illinois and Drake, going unbeaten in singles and doubles while earning match-clinching victories against each team.
"It's great that the conference recognized Emma," Camerota said. "She's clinched three matches for us now. She was last match on against Colorado to begin the season and didn't clinch, but she's used that experience and has been clutch since. For a freshman to be in that role is tough and she's done well."
Omaha is 5-6 on the season, most recently losing a tight affair against Iowa State, 4-3, on Feb. 25. The Mavericks were riding a three-match win streak prior to the loss to the Cyclones.
Presbyterian is 5-4 this year, having won two of its last three matches. The Blue Hose have two road wins this season – at USC Upstate and at Western Carolina.
"We have to make sure we show up for both matches," Camerota said. "We're encouraging the team to be vocal and support each other. We need to keep being aggressive in doubles and intelligent in singles."
Admission to CSU home tennis matches is free.
