Freshman went unbeaten in Des Moines, helping lead Rams to 2-0 weekend
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado State Freshman Emma Corwin has been named the Mountain West Tennis Player of the Week after she went unbeaten in both singles and doubles across two matches in Des Moines, Iowa, last weekend.
The honor is the first of Corwin's career, and the first for a CSU tennis player this season.
Corwin went 2-0 in singles and 1-0 in doubles last weekend, helping lead CSU to wins over Western Illinois and Drake.
The Elm Grove, Wis., native defeated Ana Bjelica of Western Illinois in straight sets on Saturday, then recorded a comeback victory over Joely Lomas of Drake on Sunday. Both singles wins resulted in match-clinching points for the Rams.
Corwin also teamed up with sophomore Riley Reeves to win in doubles against Lomas and Melania Jaglarz of Drake on Sunday, a victory that sealed the doubles point in the match.
CSU is 6-4 overall, having won five of its last six matches. All 10 matches played thus far have come away from Fort Collins. The Rams will play their first home matches of the spring this weekend at the CSU Tennis Complex, hosting Omaha (Saturday, 1 p.m.) and Presbyterian (Sunday, 11 a.m.). Admission is free.
