Rams take doubles point, Luetschwager claims singles win
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State tennis team lost to the Creighton Bluejays, 5-2, on Saturday at the CSU Tennis Complex.
CSU (9-6) entered the match with a limited lineup, only able to field five players in singles. The Rams still managed to earn the doubles point over Creighton (12-4), but struggled in singles.
"We played well to get the doubles point, but we will absolutely have to step up our singles tomorrow," CSU head coach Jarod Camerota said. "It's tough with injuries, but it's how the seasons go and a lot of teams are having to deal with it."
Sophomore Solene Crawley and freshman Emma Corwin teamed up to win at No. 3 doubles by a score of 6-1, and teammates Riley Reeves and Emily Kolbow did the same at No. 2 to give CSU the opening point and a 1-0 match lead.
Creighton automatically earned a singles point with CSU unable to field a player at No. 6. The Bluejays then rattled off five consecutive wins in straight sets to seal the match, although CSU freshman Emily Luetschwager rallied to win at No. 2 over Michaela Henne, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.
Luetschwager, a native of Stevens Point, Wis., is now 9-4 in singles on the year, all coming at the No. 2 position.
CSU will be back at it tomorrow morning as it hosts Weber State at 10 a.m. MT at the CSU Tennis Complex. The match will be streamed live at CSURams.com/live.
