Fullback recognized for his efforts in the community
NORTHBROOK, Ill. — Colorado State fullback Adam Prentice has been nominated for one of the most prestigious off-the-field awards in college football, as the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) today included him among 169 nominees for the 2018 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.
The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® has been one of the most esteemed honors in college football for more than 25 years. The student-athletes who are nominated for this award not only demonstrate a unique dedication to community service and desire to make a positive impact on the lives around them, but they also show tremendous perseverance as well as the ability to overcome personal struggles and come out victorious against all odds.
Prentice, a redshirt sophomore, recently took part in CSU's second annual Green & Global initiative, a 10-day cultural immersion and service trip to Petersfield, Jamaica, in May. While there, he spent time with the students of Petersfield High School in Jamaica, speaking to them about the importance of education outside of sport. Prentice and his fellow Rams peers participated in Jamaica's labor week by helping clean up the Petersfield community park and putting down gravel for the placement of a new playground at an elementary school in town.

He also organized a large group of teammates to attend and support Night to Shine 2018, a prom-like event for young people with disabilities, sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation. Tebow is on the voting panel that will select the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.
Prentice has also spent time playing various sports and interacting with students from Respite Care of Fort Collins, an organization that provides short-term quality care for children with developmental disabilities, giving respite to their families and enhancing the quality of life for the entire family.
"My drive to serve others was instilled in me by my dad," Prentice explained. "His life was centered around serving others, and naturally became a part of mine. He stressed the importance of giving back to the community and to those who are less fortunate, especially through service. I believe it is important to give back because I think a little good can go a long way. I believe that little good can domino into a collective greater good that can then change the world we live in for the better."
The civil engineering major earned Academic All-Mountain West recognition with a 3.3 GPA in 2017-18. He also played key role for a CSU offense that ranked 11th in all of FBS in total offense (492.5 ypg), 2nd in third-down conversions (50.3%) and 8th in first downs (25.1), the latter two breaking school records.
Prentice was CSU's 2017 nominee for the Burlsworth Award, recognizing a football student-athlete who began his playing career as a walk-on. He was awarded a scholarship during preseason camp in 2016 after joining the Rams in 2015 as a walk-on.
The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® is comprised of 11 players from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision and 11 players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III and the NAIA and one honorary head coach. To be in consideration by Allstate and the AFCA for a nomination, each player must be actively involved with a charitable organization or service group while maintaining a strong academic standing.
The final roster of 22 award recipients and honorary head coach will be unveiled in September.
After the final team members are announced in September, college football fans can visit the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® official page on ESPN.com to view profiles and images of the players and honorary head coach, and vote for the 2018 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® Captain. Fans are also encouraged to follow along and join in on the conversation by searching and using #GoodWorksTeam on their social media channels throughout the season.
