Day-By-Day recaps of CSU's first two tournaments of 2018-19

CSU split squad for events in Wisconsin, Wyoming

The Colorado State tennis team split up to compete in two different tournaments to begin the 2018-19 season.

Four Rams will be at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic – Emma CorwinEmily KolbowEmily Luetschwager and Priscilla Palermo. Three more players – Stella CliffeAlyssa Grijalva and Riley Reeves – will be at the Wyoming Invite up in Laramie, Wyo.

WYOMING INVITE -- DAY 3 (Sunday, Sept. 23)
Alyssa Grijalva and Riley Reeves capped off a perfect weekend in singles, with each picking up a win against a foe from Central Oklahoma.

Grijalva topped Nikki Boyar, 5-7, 6-1, 6-0. Reeves defeated Adel Byanu in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5. 

Stella Cliffe teamed up with Grijalva for a doubles victory over Isabella Dunlap and Paola Landin, also of Central Oklahoma.

MILWAUKEE TENNIS CLASSIC -- DAY 3 (Saturday, Sept. 22)
CSU's four competitors were able to play some bonus matches on Saturday, with Emma Corwin adding a victory to her weekend total.

Corwin topped Mayya Perova of Milwaukee, 6-2, 3-6, 10-6. The win was the second of the tournament for the sophomore.

Emily Luetschwager, Emily Kolbow and Priscilla Palermo each dropped their extra singles matches. Palermo went to three sets against Nicole Anderson of San Diego, 6-2, 1-6, 11-9.

WYOMING INVITE -- DAY 2 (Saturday, Sept. 22)

The Rams enjoyed an unblemished second day at the Wyoming Invite.

In singles, all three Rams (Stella Cliffe, Alyssa Grijalva and Riley Reeves) all went 2-0, each beating a different player representing Central Oklahoma. 

The doubles duo of Grijlava and Cliffe also went 2-0 on the day, beating one pair from Central Oklahoma and then topping another from the host Cowgirls.

MILWAUKEE TENNIS CLASSIC -- DAY 2 (Friday, Sept. 21)
Sophomore Emma Corwin took on Syracuse's Sofya Golubovskaya and fell in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1.

Corwin teamed up with Emily Kolbow for doubles later in the day. The duo fell to Marquette's Elisabeth Desmarais and Alexandrina Chinikova, 

WYOMING INVITE -- DAY 1 (Friday, Sept. 21)

CSU's trio competing at the Wyoming Invite had significant success on the first day of play.

Junior Alyssa Grijalva went 2-0 in singles on the day, with straight-set victories over Amanda Reinhart (Air Force) and Paola Landin (Central Oklahoma). 

Stella Cliffe, making her CSU debut after transferring from Eastern Illinois this offseason, beat Isabella Dunlap (Central Oklahoma), 6-2, 6-1. Junior Riley Reeves also picked up a singles win, topping Central Oklahoma's Nikki Boyar 6-3, 6-3.

Cliffe and Reeves teamed up in doubles and lost their only match of the day to Air Force's Alex Kuo and Ashleigh Harvey, 6-4.

MILWAUKEE TENNIS CLASSIC -- DAY 1 (Thursday, Sept. 20)
Sophomore Emma Corwin picked up a singles win over Navy's Kayla Hodge, 7-6 (3), 7-5.

The other three Rams -- Emily Kolbow, Emily Luetschwager and Priscilla Palermo -- each dropped their opening matches of the season. 

Luetschwager went the distance with Kateryna Popova of Lipscomb, falling 3-6, 6-2, 5-7.

Palermo and Luetschwager combined for an impressive doubles win, topping the Michigan State duo of Mary Lewis and Maja Pietrowicz by a score of 8-3.
