Rams drop Wednesday night contest to Nevada, 62-38

Rams next in action at Fresno State at 3 p.m. MT/2 p.m. PT on Saturday

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State women's basketball team fell to the Nevada Wolf Pack, 62-38, in a Wednesday night Mountain West matchup at Moby Arena.

Sophomore guard Lore Devos led Colorado State (7-10, 1-5 MW) offensively, posting 12 points to go along with three boards and as many assists and steals. Senior guard Myanne Hamm registered eight points on 3-for-6 shooting from the floor and 2-for-4 shooting from three-point range. On the defensive end, sophomore forward Lena Svanholm blocked five shots, tied for the sixth-most in a single game in program history.

Colorado State and Nevada (6-12, 2-5 MW) were even through the first quarter, playing to a 15-all deadlock through the first 10 minutes. However, a scoring drought for CSU that extended deep into the second quarter allowed Nevada to build up a 25-15 lead at the 3:04 mark before the Wolf Pack took a 27-20 advantage to halftime.

A similar scoring drought burned the Rams at the beginning of the third quarter, allowing Nevada a 12-0 run to start the half and a 39-20 lead by the 5:58 mark. That proved enough to put the game out of reach, as the Rams were unable to cut the deficit to any closer than 16 points before Wednesday's final 62-38 result.

IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State head coach Ryun Williams
"The defense wasn't our problem tonight. It may seem that way when they (Nevada) go on those little mini-runs, but at some point you've got to counter, right? You've got to score the basketball, and tonight we probably got good enough shots. We've haven't had this good of looks in four games. We should've probably scored 70-plus points tonight with the shots that we got. We missed 11 layups. 11. That's 22 points in my Wyoming math. That's 22 points. You can't leave that off the scoreboard. Some kids had some tough nights shooting the ball … It's frustrating. It's hard to play defense time after time after time when you come up empty offensively."

NOTES
  • Prior to the five-block performance by sophomore forward Lena Svanholm on Wednesday, the last Colorado State player to register as many in a single game was Hannah Tvrdy vs. Western Illinois in round one of the WNIT on March 15, 2018.

  • Devos has been the team's high scorer in three of the Rams' six conference games in 2018-19.
