Rams fall in Wednesday night contest at Air Force, 63-48

Rams return to action on Saturday for 2 p.m. MT Mountain West matchup at New Mexico

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – The Colorado State women's basketball team fell to the Air Force Falcons, 63-48, in a Mountain West contest on Wednesday night from Clune Arena.

Colorado State (7-7, 1-2 MW) was led offensively by sophomore guard Lore Devos, who tallied 16 points on 6-for-12 shooting from the floor and 4-for-5 shooting from the free throw line. Sophomore forward Lena Svanholm joined her in double-digit scoring with 10 points and led the Rams with five rebounds. Seven players scored for CSU overall.

Colorado State outshot Air Force (5-9, 1-2 MW) from the floor overall, 36 to 32.3 percent; however, CSU turnovers and an 11-offensive board advantage for Air Force led to 15 extra shots for the Falcons. That advantage for Air Force was most apparent in the first half, when the Falcons corralled seven more offensive boards (12 to five) and committed four fewer turnovers (10 to six). CSU had an eight-percent lead in field goal shooting (36 to 28 percent) in that first half, but those two advantages for Air Force led to 14 extra shots en route to a 28-20 Falcon lead at halftime.

While Colorado State won the turnover battle in the second half, Air Force compensated with edges in field goal percentage (37.9 to 35.7 percent) and defensive rebounds (15 to 11) in addition to its already-established upper hand in offensive boards (seven to three in the second half). While CSU had moments where it had cut the deficit down to as few as six in the third quarter, the Falcons reestablished a double-digit lead heading to the fourth and never led by fewer than 10 before the final 63-48 result.

IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State head coach Ryun Williams
"We had decent-enough looks throughout that basketball game where we could have made it more competitive and probably give ourselves a chance. We just have a really poor inability to score the ball on the road. It's pretty obvious. The road's tough. You've got to be really strong-minded and you've got to have a really high level of compete. We just have some kids that when they face that pressure, when somebody comes at them and kind of punches them a little bit…we just kind of don't want a lot to do with that. We've got to grow up in that area…we've got to keep plugging and find a way to help this group move forward a little bit."
