CSU puts together 4-2 victories in both neutral-site matches

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Colorado State continued its solid early start to the spring with a pair of neutral site victories Saturday, defeating UC Riverside and New Mexico State, each by a 4-2 score. The Rams improved to 4-1 on the season while both the Highlanders and Aggies fell to 2-3 on the year.

We showed great fight today and pulled out a pair of hard-fought wins," head coach Jarod Camerota said. "Two wins on the day is great! This gives us confidence going into tomorrow and we are excited to play UNLV."

In the morning match against UC Riverside, CSU captured the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and 3 doubles with wins, with Stella Cliff and Nancy Ghanem earning a 6-3 victory at No. 2 and Emily Luetschwager and Riley Reeves picking up a 6-2 win at No. 3. The Rams went up 2-0 in the oveall match on the strength of Ghanem's win at No. 4, but the Highlanders picked up the win at No. 2 to make it 2-1 overall. Luetschwager earned a three-set victory at No. 1, rallying after dropping the first set to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, to put the Rams up 3-1. UC Riverside won in three sets at No. 5 before Cliffe picked up a 7-6, 7-6 victory at No. 3 to seal the win for the Rams.

The afternoon match against New Mexico State was delayed by rain, so the decision was made to play singles first and then doubles, if necessary. Priscilla Palermo at No. 4 and Luetschwager at No. 1 got the Rams off to a 2-0 lead with a pair of dominating straight-set victories. NM State got on the board with a win at No. 3, but Ghanem put CSU within a match of victory with a strong showing at No. 5, winning 6-4, 6-1. The Aggies won at No. 6 in a three-set battle before Alyssa Grijalva ended the day with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 victory at No. 2 to give CSU its second dual match win of the day.
