Rams top Air Force, 55-48, in Saturday Mountain West clash

Rams’ Tatum Neubert tallies double-double; Myanne Hamm registers eight steals, the ninth-most in a single game in program history
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State women's basketball team avenged a loss to the Air Force Falcons earlier this season with a 55-48 victory in what was a closely contested matchup on Saturday afternoon from Moby Arena.
Â
The lead changed hands five times on Saturday, with neither team ever leading by double digits. The lead swung for the final time with just over five minutes to play, as a pair of free throws from senior forward Tatum Neubert followed by a three-pointer from senior guard Myanne Hamm broke a tie and put Colorado State (8-12, 2-7 MW) ahead for good. Air Force (8-13, 4-6 MW) cut CSU's lead to 48-46 with one minute to go, but the Rams limited the Falcons to one more field goal and made 7-of-8 free throws in that final minute to seal the result.
Â
Neubert finished Saturday's contest with a double-double on 12 points and a season-high 11 rebounds. Hamm tallied nine points and a career-high eight steals, the ninth-most in a single game in program history. Hamm's defensive performance led team effort that held the Falcons to 30 percent shooting and a 23.5 percent clip in the fourth quarter. On the offensive end, sophomore guard Lore Devos finished the game with a team-high 17 points, while junior guard Mollie Mounsey scored 11 points.
Â
Air Force's largest advantage was in the first few minutes of the second quarter, when a three-pointer put the Falcons up, 17-8. From that point, Devos and Mounsey combined to convert on the Rams' next four field goal attempts and pull the Rams within 17-16 near the midway point of the quarter. From that point on, the lead was never as large for either team until the Rams pulled away in the final minutes of the game.
Â
STAT OF THE GAME
Saturday's victory marks Colorado State's 10th consecutive win over Air Force at Moby Arena and its 20th win in the last 21 regular-season games played between the pair. CSU is 49-12 all-time against Air Force.

IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State head coach Ryun Williams
"We just needed a win. We were desperate for a win, and we just asked the kids for whatever it takes and to find a way. Just really proud of the plays we made down the stretch and some really nice individual performances. Tatum's (Neubert) really stands out and Myanne's (Hamm) really stands out against an Air Force team that really pressures the heck out of you. They're just relentless for 40 minutes. A lot of kids played positions that they weren't supposed to play today, to be honest … with Gracie (Colaivalu) out, that's just how it had to be. I thought those kids really did as good of a job as they could and I'm proud of them for doing what they needed to do today."
Â
On the character of the team:
"This has been a tough stretch for us. We've lost games. (Things) could have gone south. Their spirits remained high. Their intent was always purposeful coming to practice. They kept putting themselves in a position, but it wasn't ever good enough to get a win. I think our team has shown great character in clawing, trying to move the needle and continuing to get better. Although they might think that mountain they're climbing is made of sand and they aren't going very far, they're making some progress. We needed this win. They fought for it, and our kids deserved it. As their basketball coach, I'm really, really proud of them and happy for them."
