FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State women's basketball team nearly rallied from an 18-point second-half deficit, but fell to the San Jose State Spartans, 78-70, on Wednesday night from Moby Arena.

Senior guard Myanne Hamm led Colorado State (8-16, 2-11 MW) offensively with a career-high 18 points. Three other Rams score in double figures, including sophomore guard Lore Devos (17 points), junior guard Mollie Mounsey (11 points) and sophomore forward Lena Svanholm (10 points). Sophomore guard Grace Colaivalu tallied 10 assists along with eight points.

Colorado State trailed San Jose State (3-21, 2-11 MW) as 18 points in the third quarter, as the Rams faced a 52-34 deficit at the 7:15 mark. CSU held SJSU to just four points over the next 10 minutes, and paired the defensive effort with 20 points over that stretch to cut the Spartans' lead to 56-54 with 7:01 to go.

However, San Jose State made each of its next four shots to reestablish an eight-point lead at 67-59 with 4:14 to play. CSU was able to cut the deficit to five multiple times down the stretch, including with under a minute to go, but that was as close as the score got before the final 78-70 tally. SJSU used 53.8-percent shooting (14-for-26) from three-point range to keep CSU at bay after the Rams shot 41.7 percent (5-for-12) from deep in the opening period. The Spartans never shot below 40 percent from three over the final three quarters, while the Rams shot 16.7 percent (4-for-24) from beyond the arc over that stretch.

"They (San Jose State) can score in bunches. They went on a little run there in the second quarter and middle of the third, and then there was three straight baskets (scored by SJSU) when we cut it to two…offensively they're just a very good basketball team. We just didn't match it enough with our shot-making. Mentally…we made a lot of mental mistakes tonight, really from the start of the game, which is a little discouraging. Our kids showed a lot of fight but that's just not good enough to get wins."

Sophomore guard Grace Colaivalu registered 10 assists, her second game in double-digit assists this season.
Sophomore guard Lore Devos scored in double figures for the 18th time this season.
Sophomore forward Lena Svanholm registered her seventh game with 10 or more points this season.
Junior guard Mollie Mounsey has now registered double-digit points in 12 games in 2018-19.
