Sophomore center Liah Davis leads Rams with 12 points
LARAMIE, Wyo. – The Colorado State women's basketball team fell in a 56-32 Border War contest at Wyoming on Saturday afternoon at Arena-Auditorium.
Â
Sophomore center Liah Davis led Colorado State (8-17, 2-12 MW) with 12 points on 5-for-9 shooting and corralled a team-high six rebounds. Sophomore guard Lore Devos finished with nine points. Wyoming (18-5, 11-3 MW) was led offensively by Bailee Cotton, who scored 17 points. CSU was hurt by several extended scoring droughts, and shot 28.3 percent for the game. The Cowgirls shot 42 percent by comparison.
Â
Wyoming took the lead within the first three minutes of the first quarter and never relinquished it, leading for the final 37:01 on Saturday. The Cowgirls opened the game on an 8-0 run, as Colorado State was unable to find the bottom of the net until a pair of Devos free throws at the 3:34 mark. The Rams cut the deficit as small as four multiple times in the first half, and held the Cowgirls to 25 first-half points to remain down by only five at halftime.
Â
However, Colorado State managed just one point over the first nine minutes of the second half, allowing Wyoming to build a 39-21 lead by the third quarter's 1:01 mark. The Rams fell victim to a similar shooting drought to start the fourth quarter, as Wyoming built its lead to 20 with 7:02 to go before boosting it to the final 56-32 result.
IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State head coach Ryun Williams
"Defensively, a good first half, but then because we couldn't score it just became very painful to play defense time and time and time again. It's kind of like some of our practice players and our redshirts – who will be really good next year, by the way – all they do is play defense in practice for an hour and a half. They don't ever get to see the offensive end. But they're (Wyoming) a tough team to guard, so I thought our kids did a decent job guarding their motion. We lost them a few times … they made those three, threes there (in the third quarter) and we're down 15 or so and then that's it.

NOTES
The Colorado State women's basketball team returns to Moby Arena on Wednesday to face the Boise State Broncos. Game time is 7 p.m. MT.
