Kelcey Bedard registers No. 2 mark in Mountain West history; Rams combine for 10 new entries on CSU’s all-time indoor lists in distance events

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M./SEATTLE, Wash./COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The top women's weight throw performance from a Mountain West athlete in nearly 14 years and 10 new entries on Colorado State's all-time indoor distance lists were among the highlights for the Rams between the Don Kirby Invitational, Husky Classic and Colorado Running Company Mountain Lion Open on Friday.

The Don Kirby Invitational is held at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M. The Husky Classic is contested at Dempsey Indoor in Seattle, Wash., while the Colorado Running Company Mountain Lion Open is held at the Mountain Lion Fieldhouse in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Senior Kelcey Bedard accounted for that weight throw mark, as she registered a personal best by over four-and-a-half feet on Friday. Bedard's mark was 72-10 (22.20m), which ranks second on CSU's all-time indoor list as well as second on the Mountain West's all-time indoor list. Only four athletes in the NCAA had a better mark in the women's weight throw this indoor season entering this weekend. The only performance better in MW and CSU history was 74-3.75 (22.65m) by Loree Smith on March 11, 2005 in Fayetteville, Ark.

Of the aforementioned distance performances, six were in the 5,000 meters, while three were in the mile and one came in the 3,000 meters. Seven of those times were accounted for by the Rams' women, while the other three were clocked by the Rams' men.

IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State head coach Brian Bedard
"After speaking with our other coaches and following the other results, we agreed that it ended up as a positive day for us with highlights in most of the event areas. Several athletes had PRs for us today, which is always a good thing. It's always good to have people moving in the right direction."

On Kelcey Bedard's performance:
"We had actually rested her a little bit because of an injury, so she had fresh legs, which I think helped out quite a bit to be honest. From a technical standpoint, she held her composure. Another thrower hit a big throw on one of her last throws, and I think that kind of fired her up to compete a little bit. It was fun to see."
