Sant places fifth in 60 meters at Millrose Games, Rams break 4x400 relay record at Don Kirby

Rams’ Lauren Gale, Jessica Ozoude, Michelle Gould and Jasmine Chesson combine to set new record in women’s 4x400 relay
NEW YORK CITY/ALBUQUERQUE, N.M./COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado State redshirt-senior Marybeth Sant placed in the top five in the women's 60 meters at the 112th NYRR Millrose Games, while the Rams broke the program record in the women's 4x400 relay at the Don Kirby Invitational on Saturday.

Colorado State was also in action at the Colorado Running Company Mountain Lion Open, which is held at the Mountain Lion Fieldhouse in Colorado Springs, Colo. The Millrose Games is held at the New Balance Track and Field Center at The Armory in New York City, while the Don Kirby Invitational is held at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M.

Sant clocked a 60 meters time of 7.23, placing fifth as the only collegian in a world-class Millrose Games field. While .05 seconds shy of her personal best, only 17 other athletes in the world have run a time faster than 7.23 this indoor season. Only six NCAA athletes have a time that is better in 2018-19.

Freshman Lauren Gale, sophomore Jessica Ozoude, junior Michelle Gould and sophomore Jasmine Chesson combined to break CSU's all-time program record in the women's 4x400 relay. Those four stopped the clock in 3:42.19, edging out the previous record of 3:42.89 set in 2017.

Don Kirby Invitational (Albuquerque Convention Center – Albuquerque, N.M.)
Sophomore Destinee Rocker registered a personal-best performance in the women's 60-meter hurdles in the semifinal round on Saturday, clocking a time of 8.26. Rocker's time ranks second on CSU's all-time indoor list. Rocker went on to place fourth in the final with a time of 8.28. The sophomore's time of 8.26 (8.28 converted for altitude) also ranks within the NCAA's top 30 this indoor season.

In addition to her role on the Rams' record-setting 4x400 relay team, Gale placed in the top five in women's 400 meters competition and among the top three collegians with a collegiate-best time of 54.25. Gale's time ranks second on CSU's all-time indoor list.

Among the top performers in field events were junior Maria Muzzio and sophomore Tarynn Sieg, each one of the top-10 collegians in the women's shot put on Saturday. Muzzio's mark was 49-4.25 (15.04m), while Sieg finished with a best effort of 49-3.5 (15.02m).

Colorado Running Company Mountain Lion Open (Mountain Lion Fieldhouse – Colorado Springs, Colo.)
Rams won each of the women's and men's 60-meter hurdles races on Saturday. Junior Kamal-Craig Golaube clocked a time of 8.25 to finish as the victor on the men's side, while junior Aria Tate topped the women's field with a time of 8.78.

The top three collegians in the women's pole vault were each Rams. Junior Josie Spitz and senior Gabby Smith each cleared 12-6.75 (3.83m), followed by junior Aliya Simpson, who topped 12-2.75 (3.73m).

In other field events, junior Amelia Harvey won the triple jump with a mark of 38-9.75 (11.83m). Rounding out event winners was senior Eli Oftedal who was the top collegian in the men's mile with a time of 4:24.07.

The Colorado State track & field team has the next week off from competition before returning to action at the Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., the week after. The Rams will compete for conference titles from Thursday, Feb. 28 through Saturday, March 2 at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

- The program record in the women's 4x400 relay was previously held by Emily Romo, Leah Fair, Abby Simpson and current Ram Macy Kreutz.
- Saturday's 60-meter hurdles race marked the 2018-19 indoor season debut for sophomore Destinee Rocker. Rocker was All-Mountain West in the 60-meter hurdles last season, and holds the program record in the 100-meter hurdles.
