No. 25 Rams drop series opener at Boise State

Colorado State allowed four-unanswered runs in the 12 inning game
BOISE, Idaho – The Colorado State softball team dropped its series opener at Boise State with a 12-inning marathon, 6-5, on Friday afternoon.

The Rams scored the first run of the game in the first inning before Boise State took a one-run lead after scoring a pair in the bottom of the fourth. Colorado State responded with three runs in the fifth off of home runs by Tara Shadowen and Ashley Ruiz. CSU increased its lead in the sixth with another run to lead 5-2. Boise State cut into the Rams' lead in the sixth with two runs before tying the game in the bottom of the seventh with another run. The Rams were just one strike away from secure the win.

After five extra innings, Boise State loaded the bases in the bottom of the 12th before a walk-off single ended the game

The 12-inning game is the longest game of the season and longest since a 12-inning game last season at Kansas.

- Haley Donaldson and Amber Nelson recorded three hits, including Donaldson recorded the lone double
- Tara Shadowen (13) and Ashley Ruiz (9) each hit a home run
- Bridgette Hutton (15-5) was given the loss, throwing 11 innings and allowing the six earned runs
- Taylor Gilmore appeared in game in the 11th, relieving Hutton
