Tennis team focused on improved doubles play
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – A border crossing is in order for the weekend as the Colorado State women's tennis team takes part in its second fall tournament at the Wyoming Open, beginning Friday.
The three-day event serves a six-team field, with Air Force, Central Oklahoma, Montana State and South Dakota also in attendance. CSU faced four of those teams last weekend.
Coach Jarod Camerota said the Bedford Cup gave his roster some areas to work on, with the goal to see progress, especially in doubles play.
"I'm looking to see our doubles improve. We definitely have to make strides there, and making sure we're doing what we're supposed to do in those matches," he said. "That's the biggest thing. We'll also take a look at doubles partners, and we'll experiment with those."
Play begins at 1 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m. on each of the final two days. Last week Emily Luetschwager played well in singles, winning all three of her matches.
"We want to get better at singles, as well," Camerota said. "After a weekend under our belt, we will work on some things in practice. It was helpful to see everything last weekend to help us this weekend. After the summer, you don't always have an idea."
This will give the Rams two prep tournaments before hosting the Jon Messick Invitational Sept. 28-29 at the CSU Outdoor Tennis Complex.
