1/15/2020 10:42:00 PM | Men's Basketball

CSU made a program-best 19 three-pointers with six Rams scoring in double figures

FORT COLLINS, Colo.  – Colorado State got off to a hot start and never looked back, handling New Mexico 105-72  in Moby Arena Wednesday night. In the only regular-season meeting between the two teams, the Rams improved to 12-7 overall and evened up at 3-3 in the conference, while the Lobos, who were receiving votes in this week's coaches poll, dropped to 15-4 and fell to 4-2 in the league.

After the Lobos made the first bucket and an early exchange of leads, the Ram went on a 11-0 run over 1:24, keyed by threes from sophomores Adam Thistlewood and Kendle Moore to jump out to a 14-5 lead. The lead quickly grew to 14 on three Moore free throws to put CSU up 29-15 and through quality long distance shooting of 11-of-16 in the opening 20 minutes, the Rams built a 56-33 halftime lead. The margin grew to as many as 39 in the second half, as CSU pulled away throughout the entire second half.

For the game, CSU shot a solid 56.8 percent (38-of-64) but were outstanding beyond the arc, going 67.9 percent (19-of-28). UNM was 50.8 percent (30-of-59) from the field but just 33.3 percent (6-of-18) on threes. CSU controlled the boards 36-23 and outscored the visitors 12-5 on second chance points. The Rams also handed out 27 assists

Colorado State had six players in double figures, led by freshman Isaiah Stevens 19 points and eight assists. Moore finished with 17, while Thistlewood chipped in 16. Redshirt-senior Nico Carvacho recorded the double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while adding five assists. Freshmen David Roddy and John Tonje chipped in 12 and 10, respectively. New Mexico was led by Zane Martin with 17, the only Lobo in double figures.
