BOULDER, Colo. β The top-five finishers in the women's pole vault reigned from Colorado State Thursday afternoon during day one of the Colorado Invitational.
Β
Freshman Celyn Stermer won the event with a score of 12'5.50'' missing just one try. It marked her best performance since the season opener at the Mines Alumni Classic & Multi when she won with a 12'6''.
Β
Close behind Stermer was senior Josie Spitz in second place with the same score but had two misses. For Spitz, it registered as her second-best mark, trailing two inches on her last outing at Air Force Invitational.
Β
Similarly, in third and fourth place, Tameryn Coryell and Madeline Wilson both recorded a 11'5.75'', but Coryell had one miss to Wilson's three. The last Ram to place was Lauren Jarossy in fifth place before a freshman from Wyoming rounded out the six finishers.
Β
Day two of the Colorado Invitational commences at 11 a.m. with the start of jumps and goes until the evening with the last event, the women's distance medley relay, slotted at 7:50 p.m.
Coach's PerspectiveΒ
Assistant Coach Shane Ryan - MultisΒ and Jumps
"Overall, the ladies overcame some physical and mental barriers this week. As a group, it's great to see that what we are working on in practice is starting to carry over to the meets. Josie and Celyn both had strong competitions. After taking attempts at, over, or close to the PR bars for two meets in a row, they're set up well as we progress towards indoor conference. However, there is still lots of work to be done. We need to improve our consistency and break through some more barriers to finish strong this season."
