Runnin' Rebels Race By Rams

2/19/2020 12:54:00 AM | Men's Basketball

LAS VEGAS, Nev.  – There are nights like this and Colorado State happened to have one on the road, as the visitors fell behind early and UNLV raced out to an eventual 80-56 victory Tuesday night at the Thomas & Mack Center. With the loss, the Rams fell to 18-10 overall and 9-6 in Mountain West play, while the Runnin' Rebels improved to 14-14 overall and 9-6 in the league.

CSU started off well, running out to a 7-2 lead in the first three minutes of the game, but UNLV quickly got into their rhythm on the home court, going on a 21-3 run over the next 5:23 to take control of the game at 23-10. The Runnin' Rebels built as much as a 24-point lead in the opening period, went into the halftime break up 51-29 and never looked back as CSU got no closer than 22 the rest of the way.

For the game, CSU shot just 40.8 percent (20-of-49) from the field and 28.6 percent (4-of-14) from behind the arc. UNLV was 50.0 percent (30-of-66) from the floor and 41.7 percent (10-of-24) beyond the 3-point line. CSU did not take advantage of the free throw line, going just 48.0 percent (12-of-25).

CSU was led by redshirt-senior Nico Carvacho, the only Ram in double figures with 16 points and also led with eight rebounds. UNLV had three in double figures, led by Bryce Hamilton with a game-high 25 points.
