Three Improvements on CSU’s All-Time Indoor List

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Aside from the six event wins by the Colorado State track and field teams, the Rams also achieved three all-time CSU top-10 marks to cap their competition Saturday in the UCCS Mountain Lion Open.

Amelia Harvey and Maria Muzzio improved upon their already top-10 positions in the triple jump and shot put, respectively, while Tameryn Coryell vaulted into the No. 10 spot. As far as event victories, the Rams swept the shot put and 60-meter hurdles on the men and women's side, while also winning the men's 800 meter and women's triple jump.

Pole Vault action started the second and final day at the Mountain Lion Fieldhouse for the meet. Coryell, a redshirt-freshman from Highlands Ranch, Colo., improved 3.5'' on her previous best to reach 12'3.5'' and place second – her best placement as well. She moved up three spots in CSU history, bringing the total to four current Rams in the top 10.

Harvey, who attended Pine Creek High School just 8.5 miles down the road, won the triple jump by a margin of three feet to the next competitor. The senior improved 7.5 inches to set a personal record of 40'6.25'', passing former teammates McKenzie Wright (39'11.5'') and Lindsay Read (40'1.25'').

Despite tossing the shot put eight inches further than her previous record, Muzzio's 52'1.75'' wasn't enough to climb further from her No. 8 spot on the school list. The senior from Fairfax, Va., is now two inches from Jessica Sharbono's seventh-place mark that was set in 2014. Muzzio also won the event for the fifth time this season.

Trying to catch up to Muzzio's win total is Mariano Kis who won the shot put on the men's side – his fourth of the season. The true freshman upped his PR by 1.25'' to now stand at 54'10.75''.

Fellow true freshman Jordan Lanning polished off her best collegiate meet with securing the 60-meter hurdle win after going into it with the top-qualifying time. For the fourth consecutive run, she improved her PR, shaving off a collective .22 seconds. On the weekend, she notched two wins (60mh and high jump) and two PRs (60mh and long jump).

Completing the Ram sweep in the hurdles was Germain Barnes who also protected his No. 1 qualifying time by a sliver of .06 seconds. The victory is the first of the season for the sophomore from Pasco, Wash.

The last Ram victory of the meet came from the last race a Ram was present. In the final turn of the 800-meter race, Yanique Borne turned on the jets and passed the leader to cross at 1:56.92.

Colorado State racked up nine event wins at the meet and compiled 13 personal records.

Next weekend, the Rams will split up with long distance traveling to the Iowa State Classic and another group to the Don Kirby Invitational.

Coach's Perspective
Head Coach Brian Bedard
On the outcome of the meet…
"The group we took down here were focused and competitive. Anytime that you have PR performances that means training is moving in the right direction and hopefully it peaks by the time we go to the conference meet. It is always good to win, so if they are event winners then it is encouraging to see they are setting a standard for themselves. We are really looking for PRs though. It's when student-athletes get stagnant that we get concerned. In general, the group we brought down competed well and it was worth our time."
