Rams split squad between Air Force Invitational and the Wyoming Dual
FORT COLLINS – Hours now is the countdown measure for the Colorado State track and field programs as the indoor season begins Friday at the Air Force Invitational down in Colorado Springs, while cross country travels north to Cheyenne for the Wyoming Dual on Saturday.
Â
In total, the Rams will be sending 49 student-athletes including eight new Rams on each of the men and women's squads to compete in the Cadet Field House. The Air Force Invitational goes through Saturday with Rams competing in sprints, hurdles, jumps, pole vaults, relays and throwing events.
Â
On Friday, the women's weight throw initiates the start of indoor season for CSU at 9 a.m. with the day ending with 5 p.m. sprint qualifying events. Similarly, Saturday will start inside the nets with the men's shot put at 9 a.m. and the meet concluding with 4x400-meter relays in the later afternoon.
Â
Spectators will not be allowed at the invitational due to COVID-19, however Air Force will be providing live results and a live stream to follow along.
Â
Both cross country teams set off up Saturday morning up I-25 to the North Cheyenne Community Park for a 9:15 a.m. gun. The men's 6,000-meter race starts it with the women's 6K in tow at 10:15 a.m. The race is closed to the public and results will be posted at the conclusion.
Â
Fifteen student-athletes on the men's side will be making the trip, featuring four new Rams – all transfers in Gannon Willcutts, Tanner Norman, Dawson LaRance and Connor McCabe.
Â
The women's contingent will be 16 student-athletes including three Ram debuts from redshirt freshman Annabel Stafford and transfers Lauren Neugeboren, and Maggie Smith. Not making her CSU debut, but her first cross country appearance will be Bailee Carr who finished sixth in the 800m at last year's indoor conference meet.
