Â
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Thankful to have a schedule after last spring, Colorado State's women's tennis team announced an 18-match slate for the 2021 season, starting off at home on Feb. 6.
Â
The Rams will host five home matches, with Metro State visiting Fort Collins to start the season. They will also host Colorado (Feb. 27) and Weber State (March 6) in non-conference action, with the remaining two home duals against Mountain West opponents San Diego State and UNLV on April 17-18.
Â
An additional five matches will take place along the Front Range, with a non-conference matchup at Denver (Feb. 28), a pair in Colorado Springs (April 2-3) and two more in Laramie, Wyo. (April 10-11).
Â
Just getting a chance to play has coach Jarod Camerota excited for his players, who have waited to see how the season would unfold.
Â
"I'm excited for a three seniors. It gives us a chance to send them out with a full season," said Camerota, entering his fifth season. "They deserve this, and just to go through a full season is exciting, win or lose. Getting a chance to compete is something to be grateful for. Crazy stuff will happen, with matches cancelled, people unable to play; we just kind of know that's how it's going to go."
Â
Colorado State did not play a Mountain West dual a year ago due to the pandemic. The schedule layout keeps the Rams close to home the majority of the season, with road trips to Iowa, California and Utah, each two-match sets.
Â
There will be no Mountain West tournament held this year, and the conference is still working out tiebreaker protocols to help determine the conference champion and standings order.
Â
"The number of matches is about the same, just with no conference tournament," Camerota said. "It's kinda cool, we can play some local matches, being down at Air Force for two and in Laramie for two. The local travel is good, and allows us to still play a good schedule."
Â
The Rams return a pair of All-Mountain West performers for the spring, Priscilla Palermo and Emily Luetschwager. Palermo led the team with a 13-6 mark in singles play, earning All-MW honors in singles play, the first recognition in her career. The lefty also paired with Alyssa Grijalva to go 13-3 in double play. Her 52 career doubles victories rank eighth all-time in program history.
Â
Luetschwager, an All-MW pick in singles in 2019, earned all-conference honors with Stella Cliffe in doubles a year ago as they became the first Rams' tandem to be ranked in the ITA, finishing at No. 79, with a 14-4 record. She was 12-8 on the year in singles play. Her 51 career doubles victories rank ninth all time, while her 52 career singles wins leave her four shy of the all-time top 10.
Â
Emma Corwin provides the roster with a third experienced senior, while Anastasiia Kotsyuba returns for her second year, and transfers Tracy Guo and Lou Regen are set to make their Ram debuts.
