Last Time Out:  Buoyed by a pair of top-20 individuals, Colorado State improved from the second to third round and finished 11th at the 2021 Ron Moore Women's Intercollegiate Sunday. The three-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by the University of Denver, was played at University of Denver Golf Course at Highlands Ranch (Par 72 – 6,302 yards) in Highlands Ranch, Colo.
The Rams shot a 6-over 294 in the final 18 holes and finished at 21-over 885 in 11th. Cal Poly shot an 8-under 278 in the final round and took home the team title at 15-under 849, eight shots better than runner-up East Tennessee State. San Francisco was third at 1-over 865, with Grand Canyon and host Denver tied for fourth at 2-over 866.
Juniors Gabby Minier and Andrea Bergsdottir both posted top-20 finishes, as the duo tied for 20th at 2-over 218, with Minier shooting a team tournament-best 71 in the final round. For Minier it was her second top-20 finish of her career that included her second round of par or better in her CSU career. Bergsdottir picked up her second top-25 finish of the 2021-22 season. Freshman Lacey Uchida tied for 48th at 7-over 223, while freshman Pemika Arphamongkol, playing as an individual, tied for 55th at 11-over 227. Sophomore Sofia Torres was next at 13-over 229, tied for 61st, while sophomore Panchalika Arphamongkol completed the CSU effort at 19-over 235, tied for 75th. East Tennessee State's Tereza Melecka took home individual honors at 9-under 207, five shots better than a quintet of players at 4-under 212.

Fast Five On the 2021-22 Season:
  • This is the fourth tournament for the Rams this season.
  • The Rams have two top-10 and six top-25 individual finishes this season, with the six top-25s going to five separate players (Panchalika Arphamongkol, Andrea Bergsdottir, Sofia Torres, Gabby Minier and Lacey Uchida).
  • The Rams are the only college team in the country to feature two pairs of sisters on the roster (Panchalika & Pemika Arphamongkol and Thea & Tomine Bjerkelo).
  • Head coach Laura Cilek is in her fourth year as leader of the Rams.
  • CSU returns the top five scorers from last year, but all three freshmen have made the lineup at least once each so far this season.
Last Time In the Ptarmigan Ram Classic in 2019: A fresh look to the lineup provided uplifting results for Colorado State's women's golf team on their home turf.
The Rams closed out their 22nd Wollenberg Ram Classic in a second-place finish with a 306-293-296=895 score. After finishing last season's tournament in sixth place, they attribute this year's success to their younger players coming to the forefront and an improved focus throughout the rounds.
"They stayed patient and we have a really young team. These ladies have done a great job of taking everything we've taught them and learning from it," head coach Laura Cilek said. "Each round I saw them making better decisions and playing with patience, so it was fun to see how they handled this tournament here under a lot of pressure."
In the 54-hole, 6,466-yard tournament, the Rams spent almost all of Tuesday in a tie for second with San Francisco, but due to their ability to remain calm while driving and freshmen taking on a major role, they were able to gain an edge and take second the second-place finish by two strokes.
Swedish freshman Andrea Bergsdottir didn't have much trouble bringing her swing over to CSU. She led the Rams, finished tied for fourth with a 4-over 76-74-70=220. Bergsdottir comes from Gothenburg and isn't having any problems adjusting to this Rams' golf team.
"It's different here, but it has been fun," Bergsdottir said. "I love being here with all the girls and playing these new courses with them, so I'm transitioning well."
Freshman Gabby Minier followed behind Bergsdottir for the Rams with a 10-over 76-76-74=226, tying for 18th. Her biggest goal coming into the tournament was to remain calm and not take unnecessary risks.
"I didn't want to force anything, because that never ends well," Minier said. "I tried to let the shots come to me as we got toward the middle of the tournament, and as a team we felt really strong coming off of our last tournament."

Friendly Honored As All-American Scholar: Freshman Panchalika Arphamongkol was named to the 2020-21 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar team as the association announced its annual honors. The criteria to be named an All-American Scholar includes a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50.
Overall, 1,432 women's collegiate golfers were recognized with the prestigious All-American Scholar honor including a combined 38 from the Mountain West.

Fahey Joins Coaching Staff: Erin Fahey joined the CSU women's golf program as assistant coach in June 2021 after spending the last two seasons in the same role at Bowling Green.
Prior to joining the coaching ranks, Fahey was a three-time captain for the Falcons and was named the 2019 Mid-American Conference Sportswoman of the Year. Over the course of her career, Fahey led BGSU to six team tournament titles, which included a title at the 2017 KZoo Classic, where Fahey also claimed the first individual championship of her playing career.
During her playing career for the Falcons, the Austin, Texas native has rewritten the BGSU women's golf record book. Her 76.49 career stroke average is the top in program history by 1.74 strokes, while her 75.48 (2017-18) is the best single-season stroke average in BGSU women's golf history. Additionally, Fahey's 77.17 stroke average in 2015-16 still stands as a freshman record. Fahey was BGSU's leading scorer each year of her career.
A part of back-to-back (17-18 & 18-19) BGSU teams that ranked No. 1 in the country for Division I women's golf in community service hours, Fahey flourished within the BG community and inside the classroom. Fahey – a three-time Academic All-MAC selection and four-time WGCA Academic All-American Scholar – competed on two Bowling Green teams that ranked inside the Top 25 in the nation in Division I team GPA. The 2018-19 squad ranked 23rd in the country for team GPA, while the 2016-17 Falcons ranked No. 15 in the nation.
Fahey received her bachelor's degree from Bowling Green in 2019. An economics major while at BGSU, Fahey earned her MBA (with a specialization in finance) from the university in 2020.

On the World Stage: Two Rams on the current roster are ranked among the top 1100 players in the current World Amateur Golf Rankings, as of October 13. The rankings are based on their average performance in selected counting events over the past two calendar years.
