Rams Play Oral Roberts at 6 p.m. to start the Week

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – For the third time in nine days, the Colorado State women's basketball team will take the court for a game on Monday at 6 pm., when the Rams go up against Oral Roberts inside of Moby Arena.

The number of games and time in between is not necessarily uncommon for a typical collegiate basketball season, but there also hasn't been one of those since 2019-20. However, normalcy is back, so the Rams will need to get in a rhythm as November doesn't let up with two more games before a five-day Thanksgiving break.

"Playing quite a few games in a short stretch here is not something our team did all of last year, but it is what this team needs to get better," head coach Ryun Williams said. "We need game experience, and we are surely getting it. We get to see who can perform a scout and really dig into the details of how to guard different opponents on different nights. The concentration level is challenged."

Oral Roberts (0-1) travels to Fort Collins for the series' first-ever meeting. The Golden Eagles are the 206th opponent all-time for the Rams. ORU opened its season at home with an 85-81 loss to UNLV despite outshooting and outrebounding the Lady Rebels. Two-time All-Summit League recipient Keni Jo Lippe dropped 21 points. The Golden Eagles return all five starters from last season's team that finished 6-15 overall with a 4-8 Summit League Record.

"Oral Roberts is a whole new team from last season," Williams said about the Golden Eagles. "They dipped into the portal and got multiple players and they have some quality freshmen that are playing. It's a team that is quite talented and took UNLV to the brink of defeat in their only game this season. They look athletic and have tough inside play to pair with good shooting from the perimeter and the ability to get out and run, so this will be a big-time test for our team."

RAMS NOTEBOOK (Full Game Notes Attached)

Preseason Mountain West Awards
• The Preseason Mountain West awards came out on Oct. 13th and pinned the Rams to finish fourth in the 11-team conference. Additionally, Hofschild was named to the five-person All-MW team. The Prior Lake, Minn, native started every game last season, averaging 13.4 points and led the MW in assists with 5.4 per game en route to being named the MW Newcomer of the Year and earn an All-MW nod.

Last Time Out
• The Rams overcame an explosive first quarter by Northern Colorado that had CSU down 14 points at one point and 10 at the end of the first frame. At the half, CSU trailed by 10 points, but the Rams outscored the Bears 41-20 in the second half to improve to 2-0 on the season. For the second-straight game four Rams scored in double digits. Karly Murphy had a team-high 14 points, while adding 13 points for her fifth-career double-double and third in a Ram uniform. Head coach Ryun Williams improved to 7-2 against Northern Colorado.
Newcomers
• New to the Rams' locker room are freshmen Anna Prim, Clara Gomez and Jess Moors in addition to transfers Kendyll Kinzer and Upe Atosu. Moors' is the younger sister of James Moors who is a sophomore on the CSU men's basketball team. Prim and Gomez both hail from Spain and were teammates before on their club team. Kinzer is a familiar face in the conference coming from Fresno State, while Atosu is a graduate transfer from Butler.

Returners
• This 2021-22 Rams return seven student-athletes and two starters from last season's squad. Junior McKenna Hofschild and sophomore Cali Clark account for the two starters, but low post players Karly Murphy and Sydney Mech combined to start 12 games last season and will solidify the Rams in the front court. The other three returners include Petra Farkas, Bengisu Alper and Makayla Hemingway.

Rams Needing Moby Arena Love
• Prior to last Wednesday's season opener, not a single Ram on the 2021-22 roster had played a regular-season home game in front of fans at Moby Arena. Last week's exhibition was the first organized game in front of fans. Ironically, junior Kendyll Kinzer was the only outlier as she played in a fan-filled Moby Arena when she was playing for Fresno State.

From the Line
• Last season, Ryun Williams' squad ranked 19th in the nation in free-throw percentage at 76.3%, which also went down as the second-best percentage in CSU history. Picking up where they left off, CSU is 16 for 19 from the charity strike thus far. Karly  Murphy is a perfect 8-of-8, while McKenna Hofschild is 5-of-7).
