Roster returns five players from a season ago
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – After nearly an 11-month wait, Colorado State's women's tennis team will return to competitive action Saturday as it hosts Metro State in a non-conference dual.
Â
The match will take place at the Fort Collins Country Club indoor courts, with a start time of 3 p.m., complete with a livestream since no fans are allowed.
Â
The last time the Rams were on the court was in California on March 8, 2020. Naturally, head coach Jarod Camerota is ready to resume match play.
Â
"It's very exciting to play, and I think we're all excited and nervous, but more than anything, just appreciative of it all," Camerota said. "Just that chance to play, compete and do what we love is great."
Â
The Rams return a trio of players who have already carved their name into the program's career top 10 lists. Emily Luetschwager, a two-time All-Mountain West performer who has posted three 20-win seasons in her career (combining both singles and doubles), ranks ninth all time in career doubles wins with 51. Priscilla Palermo, an All-Mountain West performer at singles a year ago, ranks a spot above Luetschwager on the career doubles list with 52. Alyssa Grijalva returns as a graduate student, and she ranks fourth in career doubles wins at 58, and ranks eighth on the career singles list with 56 victories.
Â
The Rams have more familiar faces in Emma Corwin and Anastasiia Kotsyuba, with transfers Tracy Guo and Lou Regen joining the lineup.
Â
For the first weekend, Camerota has urged his team to slow it down, because being nervousness and tense will be normal after such a long layout.
Â
"Everybody has been working hard, and from the first week to now the third week of practice, the improvement is noticeable," Camerota said. "In the individual meetings, we pointed that out. We've spoken about how practice is important, but matches are the most important thing. It's great to bring energy and do everything in practice, but it's more important in matches to do it all."
