Rams Split Series with Falcons

2/6/2021 9:34:00 PM | Volleyball

Colorado State was swept in a conference match for the first time since 2010.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State volleyball team finished its opening weekend, dropping the final match against Air Force, 25-19, 26-24, 25-22. The Rams were on the wrong side of the sweep in a MW match for the first time since 2010 when they lost at New Mexico and didn't win a set at home since getting swept against then-No. 3 Texas in 2016.

"It came down to us not being as terminal as we were last night," head coach Tom Hilbert said. "Our serve receive broke down completely and we gave them too many free balls and they scored transition points off them; and that just allows a team to get momentum. And they got to where they felt much more confident in their transition game. Hats off to them. They played well, they put pressure on us and we were the younger team that kind of cracked."

STAT OF THE MATCH
The Rams 53-match winning streak against the Falcons was snapped – a streak that started back in 1995 in the second meeting of the series.

NOTES
- Breana Runnels led the offense with nine kills on 23 swings to finish with a .304 mark
- Ciera Zimmerman dished out 28 assists and added 10 digs to record her first double-double of her career
- The Rams tallied eight aces, led by Zimmerman and Alexa Roumeliotis, each with three
- CSU totaled just five blocks with four coming in the final frame, led by Karina Leber with four assists
- Air Force led the match in every category, except in digs

UP NEXT
Colorado State will head to Nevada for two matches against the Wolf Pack, Feb. 12 and 13.
