CSU Runs Away With 78-42 Win At San Jose State

The Rams hold the Spartans to a season-low points in getting their first road win of the season in two tries.

SAN JOSE, Calif. –  Colorado State used solid defense and built the lead steadily in getting a resounding 78-42 win  at San Jose State, Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Rams improved to 13-1 overall and 3-1 in the Mountain West on the year, while the Spartans fell to 7-7 and 1-1 in the conference.
 
After San Jose State opened the game with a three, CSU came back and answered immediately with 10-0 run and never looked back. The Rams played consistently solid defense and led 35-17 at the halftime break. The lead grew to as many as 41 in the second half, as the visitors pulled away for the comfortable victory.
 
Colorado State finished the game a solid 46.3 percent (31-of-67) from the floor, and held San Jose State to just 27.8 percent (15-of-54) from the field, including 21.9 percent (7-of-32) from three. CSU dominated the glass, 49-31, and gave up just five turnovers on the day. The Rams turned 13 SJSU turnovers into a 15-2 point advantage.
 
CSU had three in double figures, led by junior Dischon Thomas with 14 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Isaiah Rivera posted 12 points, while junior Isaiah Stevens has 12. Junior David Roddy has six points, 11 rebounds and six assists in the victory. Overall, CSU had nine players with six or more points in the game. Omari Moore was the only Spartan in double figures with 15.
 
STAT OF THE GAME
• CSU forced San Jose State to a season-low 42 points, with the previous low 45 at No. 8 Texas.
 
NOTES
• This is a series that has had Colorado State on the winning end of all 23 matchups, including all 10 in San Jose.
• The 36-point margin was CSU's largest of the year and the largest margin of victory in the series. The previous high in the series was 29 and the previous for the year was 31 against Little Rock.
• The six assists was a season-high for Roddy and it was his fifth 10+ rebound game of the year.
• Rivera's 12 points were his second double-figure scoring game of the year and third of his career.
• This was the fifth game this year that Thomas has scored in double figures this year.

• The Rams return home for the first game with the return of students from the break, hosting New Mexico for CSU's State Pride game on Wed., Jan. 19 at 8 p.m.
