Community invited to interact with tennis players Jan. 29
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State's women's tennis program is hosting a Meet the Rams Expo at the Fort Collins Country Club on Jan. 29 from 1-3 p.m., a chance for local tennis fans to get to know the new staff and players and interact with them on and off the court.
Â
During the session at the indoor courts, first-year head coach Mai-Ly Tran will address those in attendance about how the team goes about training, and the players will play each other in exhibition matches. At the end, fans will have the opportunity to hit a few balls with the members of the team, grab autographs and interact with the team and coaches.
Â
Tran is eager to get to know tennis fans in the Northern Colorado area, and in turn, she feels they should get to know the young women on roster.
Â
"The Northern Colorado tennis community is very important to this program, and we would love to meet the members of this community, introduce ourselves and get them excited for a great upcoming season," Tran said as the team is set to begin the dual portion of the schedule this weekend on the road. "We are extremely fortunate that the Fort Collins Country Club allows us to practice and compete at their facility. Â I'm excited to introduce the new members of our team to become involved members of the close-knit community within Fort Collins. Â We are grateful for the members and the support we have received so far and can't wait to get started."
Â
The event is free to the public. Team schedule posters will be available, and those interested in playing a few points with the players should bring their own equipment and have proper footwear for the indoor courts.
Â
Under Tran, the Rams had an encouraging start to the fall, with Radka Buzkova and Matea Mihaljevic becoming the members of the team to win an ITA Regional championship, doing so as a doubles team. They and fellow doubles team Sarka Richterova and Somer Dalla-Bona became the first Rams to qualify and play in the ITA Fall Nationals (as doubles teams). Buzkova and Mihaljevic are currently ranked No. 32 in the country in doubles, the highest national ranking for a Rams doubles team in program history.
