FORT COLLINS, Colo. – No. 22 Colorado State Rams could not stop a hot-shooting UNLV squad and fell for the first time at home this season, 88-74, Friday night in Moby Arena. Snapping their five-game winning streak, the Rams fell to 16-2 overall and 6-2 in the Mountain West, while the Runnin' Rebels improved to 12-9 and 4-4 in conference action.
UNLV grabbed the early lead and never let it go as CSU was down one at 13-11 with 11:27 to go in the first. However, UNLV got on an offensive roll, led by guard Bryce Hamilton going 7-of-9 from the field for a stretch, and build the lead to as many as 19 at 40-21 with 1:11 remaining in the opening 20 minutes. The teams exchanged some late baskets, and the Runnin' Rebels led 43-25 at the intermission.
CSU got an early run in the second half and forced a UNLV timeout at 48-35, but every time the Rams made a move, the Rebels had an answer. UNLV eventually stretched the margin to 22 midway in the second half, and the Rams were able to cut it to 11 late in the game, but could get no closer.
Colorado State finished the game at 43.1 percent (25-of-58) for the game and 40.9 percent (9-of-22) on threes. UNLV finished at 50.9 percent (28-of-55) for the game, including shooting a stellar 58.6 (17-of-29) from the field and 53.3 percent (8-of-15) beyond the arc in the first half.
Junior guard Isaiah Stevens finished with a career-high 32 points, including 4-of-6 on threes, and had six rebounds, while junior forward David Roddy was the only other Ram in double figures with 13. UNLV was led by Hamilton's career-high 42 points.
