Rams Draw Level for Eighth Time This Season

10/23/2022 5:04:00 PM | Women's Soccer

The result sees Colorado State miss out on the Mountain West Tournament

There are always going to be bumps in the road on the way to success. It will never be a smooth ride.

Colorado State's season will conclude without a postseason appearance for the first time under head coach Keeley Hagen. This comes after Sunday afternoon's 1-all draw with Fresno State which ended early due to weather complications.

The Rams were already going to have a difficult time making it into the Mountain West Tournament based on results elsewhere. With the draw, their hopes of making it to Albuquerque, N.M., have been dashed.

Things started on the right foot, with Colorado State dominating the first 20 minutes. This included a wonderful ball over the top on one touch from Megan Demski to Liv Layton, who slotted in her sixth goal of the season.

The Rams had been looking to put more goals in the back of the net, as they forced the issue on several occasions. Despite this, the Bulldogs were getting chippy as they committed four fouls in the first half, including a yellow card for Megan Galvan.

However, Colorado State slipped up from the back as their defense slowly faltered. Maddie Ogden was called in to make some big saves, and her defense had issues clearing the ball out of the box. The Rams got away with it though, as a Fresno State goal was called back for being offsides.

Colorado State had a disallowed goal of its own at the beginning of the second half. Taylor Bee headed the ball in on a corner kick, but it was brought back due to goalie interference. It would cost the Rams, as just seconds later down at the other end, Kassandra Ceja beat Ogden to the bottom right corner to tie it up.

Just 13 minutes later, the game would be delayed, then later canceled for weather complications.

A record eight draws in their campaign up to this point has not surged enough charge to move forward to score more goals and hold strong defensively. With a defensive-heavy conference like the Mountain West, goals are hard to come by.

Colorado State still has one game remaining in their season: the Border War. The Rams will look to end their season on a high note and have a one-up on their rivals up north with the Wyoming Cowgirls. Kickoff for Senior Day is this Thursday at 3:00 p.m., with coverage available on the Mountain West Network and EvocaTv.
