Colorado State take road loss to the athletic Spartans

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Colorado State volleyball team suffered just its third conference loos of the season on the road Thursday night as the Rams fell to the San Jose State Spartans 3-1.

In a rematch with the Spartans, the Rams took an early one set lead and looked in control of San Jose State's offense and hostile environment inside the Yoshihiro Uchida Hall. In the first set, the Rams held San Jose to just a .212 hitting percentage while recording a .483 percentage themselves. Over the next three sets, those percentages took a complete 180-flip.

The Spartans hit over .400 in set two and three while hitting .333 in the final set.

The Rams also struggled defensively when it came to the Spartans attack from the service line. San Jose State recorded 14 aces on the night compared to Colorado State's four, while the Rams were also beaten in the blocking game as the athletic Spartans played high-energy, scrappy block coverage defense. San Jose totaled 10 blocks to the Ram's four.

Finding themselves behind in all three of the final sets, the Rams fell in three straight (25-18, 25-13, 25-14) after their opening set 25-17 win.

Top performers for the Rams included outside hitter Annie Sullivan who recorded 11 kills on the night while also surpassing the 1,000 career kills milestone. Sullivan only needed five kills heading into Thursday night's match to surpass the milestone.

Junior Kennedy Stanford and sophomore Malaya Jones also added 11 kills each while Karina Leber contributed six kills on the night.

Senior setter Ciera Pritchard led the team in both assists and digs with 37 and 12 respectively.

The Rams will continue play on the road this weekend as they travel to Reno to play the Nevada Wolf Pack Saturday afternoon. Colorado State swept the Wolf Pack in their last meeting earlier this season and will look to clinch a spot in the Mountain West Tournament with a Saturday win. First serve is set for 1 p.m. mountain time.
