Rams Wrap Up Second Day of UCCS Invite and Multi with Heptathlon

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Colorado State track and field team consisted of just five athletes Saturday afternoon at the UCCS Colorado Running Co. Pre-Holiday Invite and Multi as Maurico Galindo Vega, Elijah Scott, Drew Thompson, Mateo Munoz and Cameron Collins all competed in the final three events of the men's heptathlon.

Coming into the day with four of the seven events a part of the multi complete, Galindo Vega sat in second followed close behind by Scott in third.

With the 60m hurdles the first event of the day, it was Thompson who put up the best run for the Rams with a 8.32 second finish, good for second place.

The multi then moved on to the final field event remaining, the pole vault. Mateo Munoz was the top Ram in this event as the freshman finished fourth with a mark of 14 feet and 5.25 inches.

Moving into the last event of the day, the 1000-meter run, Thompson finished first in his heat and second overall to get the Rams off to a good start while Galindo Vega and Scott rounded out the second heat with third and fifth place heat finished.

Overall results of the heptathlon were Galindo Vega finishing fourth with 5212 points, Scott finishing sixth with 5184 points, Munoz finishing nineth with 4661 points, Thompson finishing eleventh with 4606 points and Collins finishing twelfth with 4493 points.

The entirety of the Colorado State track and field team will not take nearly a month off from competition over the holiday break. Ram student-athletes will return to competition in the Potts Invitational hosted by Colorado on January 13 and 14.
