Colorado State will travel nine athletes to compete in both multi events

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Opening its indoor season last weekend, the Colorado State track and field team will compete in one more meet before holiday break as it travels to the UCCS Colorado Running Co. Invitational and Multi Friday and Saturday. Nine Rams will travel as they primarily compete in both the heptathlon and the pentathlon events.

Competing in the pentathlon for the women will be Cierra Gonzalez, Lexie Keller and Tatum Bailey while Drew Thompson, Mauricio Galindo Vega, Cameron Collins, Elijah Scott and Mateo Munoz will compete in the heptathlon events for the men.

The meet is set to kick off at 11:30 a.m. Friday with multi events running through 4 p.m. The men's heptathlon will continue into Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. and going until 1:30 p.m.

Events to be run on Friday by all multi athletes include the 60-meter and 60-meter hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot put and 800-meter. The 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000-meter run will be held Saturday morning for the heptathlon.

Four of the nine athletes traveling for the Rams are freshman and will compete in their first collegiate multi event alongside Keller, Thompson and Galindo Vega, the senior leaders on this multi squad.

Keller returns for her fifth season as a Ram after earning USTFCCA First Team All-American honors as a heptathlete last season. Keller competed in four pentathlons and three heptathlons last season between both indoor and outdoor meets including placing first at the Outdoor Mountain West Championships.

Galindo Vega finished fourth in the men's heptathlon last season at the Mountain West Championships and holds the seventh best heptathlon in school history. Thompson sits not too far behind as he holds the tenth best heptathlon in school history, placing sixth at the Mountain West Championships last season. As both return for their senior season, they will serve as mentors to the three other underclassmen competing for the men.
