Rams Unable to Overcome Poor Shooting Night

12/22/2022 12:14:00 AM | Men's Basketball

Colorado State men’s basketball dropped its non-conference finally to USC Wednesday night

PHOENIX – Colorado State was unable to overcome a poor shooting night as they fell to Southern California 73-64 to close out the non-conference season.

The Rams shot well below their average going 37.7% from the field and just 5-for-27 from behind the arc. The below-average night was just too much to overcome despite forcing USC into 22 turnovers.

USC jumped out to an 11-point lead midway through the first half, but CSU showed resilience all night long using a 13-0 run to take a 23-21 lead. The teams battled the rest of the half with the Trojans holding a 31-27 advantage.

Colorado State's shooting woes really showed to start the second half as they made one shot in the first eight minutes as USC grew the lead to as much as 16. The Rams never gave in though using a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to five. They had a chance to cut into it more, but an Isaiah Rivera three-point attempt went halfway down and before bouncing out. USC proceeded down the court and responded with a three of their own never looking back from that point.

Southern California's lead grew to double figures for almost the remainder of the game.

Game Notes
- Patrick Cartier led all players with 22 points in the game. He was 8-of-10 from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe. It was his second 20-point game of the season.
- Isaiah Stevens finished an assist shy of a double-double with 15 points and nine assists. He added in a season-high four steals.
- Isaiah Rivera was the only other Ram to reach double figures scoring 12 points. He led the team with five rebounds.
- CSU forced USC into 22 turnovers but were unable to capitalize with just 16 points.

What's Ahead
