Purdum Joins Colorado State from North Dakota State

FORT COLLINS, Colo.  – Colorado State women's soccer head coach Keeley Hagen announced Monday that Josh Purdum will join the Rams' staff as an assistant coach, overseeing goalkeeping.

If the name sounds familiar to the area that's because Purdum earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Northern Colorado in 2011, and a master's degree in clinical counseling from UNC in 2014, while serving as the graduate assistant coach for the Bears. He played on the club team and was a member of the Northern Colorado Cutthroats of the Premier Arena Soccer League (PASL) from 2009-2011.

Most recently, Purdum, a goalkeeping specialist, comes from North Dakota State where he was the associate head coach for the Bison. He first arrived in Fargo, N.D. in 2018 as an assistant coach and by the second year he helped goalie Monica Polgar earn All-Summit League honors and an All-Central Region nod. In 2019, Polgar tallied 110 saves on the season, the third most in school history and logged a save percentage of .859 for sixth in school history.

Prior to his stint with NDSU, Purdum spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Ky. where he helped lead the Colonels to a share of their first-ever Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) regular season championship in 2016 with a 13-5-1 overall record. The Colonels completed the largest turnaround in the NCAA in Purdum's first year, going from 4-14 in 2015 to 13-5-1 in 2016. The team also set program records for fewest goals against (15) and total goals (30). Purdum played a key role in developing goalkeeper Anna Hall into an All-OVC performer. Under his guidance, Hall shattered the program records for shutouts (11) and goals against average (0.78) in 2016. She was voted second team All-OVC at the conclusion of the regular season. In his final season, Purdum assisted EKU to a tie for second place in the OVC and an 11-5-4 overall record.

His first full-time position after UNC came at Drake in 2015 for one season. He helped the Bulldogs to a 4-0-2 record in the Missouri Valley Conference and a share of the 2015 regular season conference title. Purdum worked specifically with Drake's goalkeeper, Brooke Dennis, who was named the MVC Goalkeeper of the Year and earned first team all-conference honors following the 2015 season.

In all, Purdum has worked with an all-conference goalkeeper at each of his stops, with five players being honored. He also experienced success at UNC, helping the Bears win a share of their first-ever Big Sky Conference regular season title in 2011. Two Northern Colorado goalkeepers earned Big Sky Goalkeeper of the Year and first team all-conference honors under Purdum's guidance – Kirsten Salminen (2011) and Natalie D'Adamio (2012 and 2013).

About Josh Purdum…
"We are excited to have Josh join our program. He's coming back to his grassroots, and we couldn't be more thrilled to have him, and his wife join us. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience specifically for the goalkeeper position. He is a life learner and continues to put himself in positions to grow in his knowledge and experience within the game."
