Tennis team to face Nebraska, South Dakota on successive days

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – One road trip will produce two duals this weekend, as Colorado State's women's tennis team travels to Lincoln, Neb., to face the host Cornhuskers and South Dakota.

The Rams will play Nebraska on Saturday at 9 a.m. (MT), then face the Coyotes on Sunday at noon.

"I think we're excited to compete every chance we get, so two matches will be fun for us," CSU coach Mai-Ly Tran said. "Getting back on the road, I think we do enjoy new facilities and being together. I think we're feeling pretty good after the Gonzaga match, and we've been trying to get in a few good days of practice to get ready for Nebraska. They're a good team, and I think they'll be similar to Gonzaga, if not tougher, so we're going in with the mindset to be prepare for that. South Dakota is a dangerous team as well. We have respect for them."

Nebraska is 3-3 on the year, as the Huskers have won their past two matches. A live stream and live scoring are available for the match. Sunday's foe, South Dakota, is 3-6 on the year, with the teams sharing one common foe, Gonzaga. The Zags beat the Coyotes 5-2; the Rams topped the Zags this past Saturday, 4-2.

In that victory, the doubles pairing of Radka Buzkova and Matea Mihaljevic each earned their 18th doubles win of the year, making them tied for ninth for wins in a single season for the Rams. With another win, they tie for seventh all time with others; with two they'd each share seventh to themselves. They are currently ranked No. 40 in the country.

Across the board, Tran said the early season matches have targeted areas of focus for each player to improve, giving them a purpose at practice. The team is 3-1 on the year, and after this set, the Rams will have two weeks off to prepare for the next pair of matches, both of which will occur on the same day in Arizona.

"We're working on individual things and making adjustments in our game," she said. "There's some work to be done in our doubles teams, and right now it's feeling good and recovering from the last match and preparing for the next ones."

Buzkova leads the team with singles victories with 13, having won her past four matches. She is 3-0 in the dual season, as is Sarka Richterova, who has posted two of her victories at the top spot to give her 11 on the year. She has won her past six singles matches.
