CSU Moves Up One Spot To 12th On Second Day of Clover Cup

The Rams go 6-under through last three holes as all five players finish within two strokes of each other.
MESA, Ariz. – Colorado State had a solid second day and moved up to 12th through two rounds of the 2022 Clover Cup Friday. The three-day, 54-holes, hosted by the University of Notre Dame, is being played at Longbow Golf Club (Par 72 – 6,184 yards) in Mesa, Ariz.

In a field that includes 12 teams represented in the 2021 NCAA Women's Golf Regionals, the Rams improved by nine shots on their opening round and shot a 5-over 293 and are currently at 19-over 595 in 12th. Only two shots separated the five CSU players in the second round from 72 to 74 and the Rams went six-under among the counters on the final three holes of the day, resulting in the quality score. No. 17 LSU is the 36-hole leader at 8-under 568, two shots ahead of No. 41 Clemson in second at 6-under 570. No. 31 TCU is third at 5-under 571, as only the top three teams are under par through two rounds. No. 19 Texas A&M is fourth at 1-over 577, with No. 40 Kentucky rounding out the top five teams at 2-over 578. Nine of the top 11 teams in the standings currently are ranked in the top 50 according to Golfstat.

"I was proud of the way we competed today," head coach Laura Cilek said. "We managed the golf course well and took advantage of the holes we could score on. We showed when we are confident and trust ourselves, we can compete with anyone. This team never gives up and always fights until the last putt! I am looking forward to continuing to climb the leaderboard tomorrow!"

CSU is led by junior Andrea Bergsdottir and sophomore Sofia Torres, who are tied for 31st at 3-over 147. Torres had the team's low round of the day with an even-par 72 while Bergsdottir posted a 73. Freshman Lacey Uchida, junior Gabby Minier and sophomore Panchalika Arphamongkol all shot 2-under 74 in the second round. Uchida is tied for 46th at 6-over 150, Minier is at 7-over 151 in a tie for 50th, and Arphamongkol, who had the biggest improvement from the first round by going eight shots lower, is tied for 70th at 12-over 156. LSU's Ingrid Lindblad continues to lead at 9-under 135, two shots ahead of a pair of players at 7-under 137.

Sunday's final round will be an 8 am MT shotgun start, with the Rams going off holes 10 through 12, playing with Florida Atlantic and East Tennessee State.
