Team picks up three singles wins in loss
FULLERTON, Calif. – Facing a ranked team for the second time in two days, Colorado State's women's tennis team pushed Cal State Fullerton to the brink before falling 4-3 on Saturday in the road match, the final non-conference tune up for the squad.

The Rams, now 6-5, have only lost matches to ranked teams this year. While they dropped a pair this weekend, assistant coach Taylor Hollander said the team grabbed a lot of confidence as they pushed both teams to the end.

"It came down to some points here and there that didn't go our way and some unfortunate matchups, but we did do well," Hollander said. "That's a tough team. I have a lot of respect for that coach and their program, so I knew it would be tough. We need two to clinch, and I knew it would come down to the wire."

The Rams won a trio of singles matches to tie the score at 3-all before the Titans secured the win – their sixth in a row – with a three-set victory at No. 3 singles. Radka Buzkova won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2 at the top spot, as did Somer Dalla-Bona at No. 4, 6-4, 6-4. Freshman Sarah Weekley, who was bumped to the No. 5 spot before singles play began, won in three sets, 7-5, 2-6, 6-3.

"Radka was Speedy Gonzalez today, like she always is," Hollander said. "She just took care of business and evened up the score for us and kept the energy going for everyone else. She stayed near Sarka Richterova's court and made sure she was there, and it was beneficial to have her finish as soon as she did.

"That was a big win for Sarah. She moves up, and that player is tough. Sarah likes to play third sets, and those are always tricky. The longer a match goes, you never know what's going to happen, but she stepped up in the third and just put it away."

In doubles play, the No. 3 tandem of Tracy Guo and Lucia Natal picked up a 6-3 win, but Cal State Fullerton secured the point with wins at the top two spots, the match at No. 1 going to a tiebreaker.

Colorado State returns to California to begin Mountain West play next week, traveling to Fresno State where the Rams will first face San Jose State on Saturday (10 a.m.), then the No. 65 Bulldogs on Sunday (12 p.m.).
