CSU Improves 10 Shots On Second Round, Moves Up to Seventh at MW Championship

Three Rams are in the top 15 as just 10 shots separates second from seventh going into the final round
RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – Colorado State made a 10-shot improvement in its second round and moved up to seventh after two rounds of the 2022 Mountain West Women's Golf Championship Tuesday. The three-day, 54-hole event, hosted by the Mountain West, is being played at the Dinah Shore Tournament Course at Mission Hills Country Club (Par 72 – 6,270 yards) in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

The Rams made significant strides in the second round, cutting 10 shots off their opening 18 score and posted a 9-over 297 for the day to move up to seventh at 28-over 604. No. 5 San Jose State continues to hold a commanding lead, as the Spartans are at 7-under 569, 25 shots ahead of Fresno State in second at 18-over 594. New Mexico is currently third at 19-over 595, with Boise State at 21-over 597 and No. 50 UNLV at 23-over 599 rounding out the top five teams. Just 10 shots separates second from seventh heading into tomorrow's final day.

Freshman Lacey Uchida leads the Rams at 5-over 149 in a tie for 10th, as the Hawaii native shot a 2-over 74 in today's round. Sophomore Sofia Torres and junior Andrea Bergsdottir are next in a tie for 15th one shot back of Uchida at 6-over 150. Torres had the Rams' low round of the tournament so far with an even-par 72 for the second 18. Junior Gabby Minier is tied for 31st at 11-over 155, while freshman Pemika Arphamongkol is tied for 31st at 14-over 158. Natasha Andrea Oon of San Jose State is at 9-under 135 to hold the individual lead by six shots heading into the last 18 on Wednesday

"The team did a nice job of coming out with some enthusiasm and confidence today," head coach Laura Cilek said. "We took advantage of our early tee time and moved up the leaderboard. We are only 10 shots out of second place going into the final round. I know the team is looking forward to seeing what they can do tomorrow and ending the season on a high note."

The Rams will play their final round tomorrow with Nevada and Wyoming, going off No. 1 at 8 a.m. MT.
