Team named All-Academic as seven players earn scholar honors
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The success for the program wasn't limited to just on the court, as Colorado State's women's tennis program was recognized Monday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for outstanding academic standing.
Â
The team was named an ITA All-Academic team, which requires at least a 3.20 GPA for the entire squad for the academic calendar. The eight Rams' players finished the year with a GPA of 3.68, with seven of the individuals earning the distinction of being an ITA Scholar-Athlete – Radka Buzkova, Somer Dalla-Bona, Tracy Guo, Anastasiia Kotsyuba, Matea Mihaljevic, Sarka Richterova and Sarah Weekley. To earn Scholar-Athlete recognition, a player needs to carry at least a 3.50 GPA. Five of the Rams carry 3.7s or better, with Richterova carrying a 4.0.
Â
The Rams are coming off the best season to date with a 15-8 dual record under first-year coach Mai-Ly Tran, tying for the most victories in a single season while putting together its best showing in Mountain West play to date. The Rams were 8-2 in conference, finishing second in the final standings and reaching the conference tournament semifinals for just the second time. They then earned the program's highest ITA spring regional ranking, coming in fifth in the Mountain. It was the first time the team made the cut since ranking 11th in 2007.
