  • Head Coach Tom Hilbert ranks 6th in active coaching wins (792-225) vs. North Carolina Head Coach Joe Sagula (848-495) who ranks 4th in active coaching wins. However, Hilbert has the leg up in winning percentage with a .779 career winning mark, ranking within the top 15 nationally, while Sagula holds a career winning percentage of .631, which is outside the top 50 active coaches.

Series History
  • Colorado State and North Carolina met a season ago in Chapel Hill with the Heels taking the match by reverse sweep.
  • The Tar Heels were last in Moby Arena in in 2018 as the Rams picked up a 3-0 sweep while ranked No. 21 in the AVCA poll.

  • UC Santa Barbara has a full weekend slate coming to Colorado. The Rams will meet the Gauchos in the final match of the week. UCSB will play Northern Colorado on Friday and North Carolina on Saturday morning, both in Greeley, before playing CSU.
  • Colorado State last faced UC Santa Barbara in 2016 and suffered a road sweep. The Gauchos were last in Fort Collins in 2014 with the Rams picking a sweep.

  • Hilbert is 17-8 in season openers during his time at Colorado State with a home opener record of 14-7 as 22 of Hilbert's 26 season has started with home court advantage.
 
Match Notes Nuggets
  • Colorado State returns 12 letterwinners from last season as well as three newcomers in freshmen Jazen Debina, Grey Foster and Delaney McIntosh.
  • Out of the returners, the Rams welcome back starting setter Ciera Pritchard who finished second in the Mountain West total assist standings last season with 1082 total assists. She also finished third in assists per set averaging 9.84.
  • Junior outside hitter Kennedy Stanford is also on the list of notable returners as the Texas native finished fifth in the conference in kills last season with 366, which also led the Ram's roster.
  • The 2021 Mountain West Newcomer of the Year, Annie Sullivan also returns for the Rams as the outside hitter totaled 296 kills last season after she transferred into the Mountain West from High Point ahead of her junior season.
  • Two graduating seniors from last year's squad that will be missed in Hilbert's starting lineup this season will be Alexa Roumeliotis and Sasha Colombo. Roumeliotis let the Mountain West in digs per set last season with 4.42 as she provided overwhelming consistency in the backcourt for the Rams. Colombo was one of Hilbert's most consistent hitters as the senior finished with 155 kills from last season, hitting at a .361 kill percentage.
