Colorado State will welcome 16 teams to Moby Arena this season
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State women's basketball announced it's 2022-23 schedule, following the Mountain West conference schedule announcement last week. The Rams will host 16 teams at Moby Arena, including seven in the non-conference slate and nine from the Mountain West, playing all members twice in a home-and-home except for San Jose State at home.
"I think we put together a great non-conference schedule," said head coach Ryun Williams. "Our schedule will test us early on, which is good and is important for us to be ready for Mountain West play. We have a handful of new players on our roster, and we need to challenge ourselves early and learn to play with one another."
The Rams will start the season with four-consecutive home games, including their first official game against BYU on Nov. 8 in Moby Arena. CSU will precede the official opener with an exhibition against Colorado Christian on Nov. 1. Colorado State will also host Montana and Western Colorado in the four-game homestand to start the schedule.
CSU will head on the road for the first time, a four-game trip at the end of November, playing at Mississippi State on Nov. 20 before spending Thanksgiving in Las Vegas playing against Mercer and Auburn. The Rams will finish the trip with a game in Greeley against the Bears on Nov. 29.
"Playing well on the road is also important," added Williams. "We scheduled a big game at Mississippi State and playing a SEC opponent will definitely prepare us as we head into Mountain West play."
The squad will return to Moby Arena and start December with another four-consecutive games to finish the non-conference schedule against Western Michigan, Denver, San Francisco and Regis.
CSU will face seven teams – the majority being league opponents – who made postseason appearances in 2021-22, including BYU, UNLV and Mercer, which made March Madness appearances. Three other Mountain West teams – New Mexico, Wyoming and Air Force – all showed in the WNIT last season along with the Rams, while Nevada also appeared in the WBI a season ago.
Colorado State will begin Mountain West action at home on Dec. 29 against Fresno State and will play through the 18-game slate with contests being played on a Thursday-Saturday set typically. The Rams will welcome nine Mountain West foes to Moby, all members except San Jose State who CSU will start with on a three-game California trip on Feb. 9.
The Mountain West Tournament will return to Las Vegas March 5-8 – taking place prior to the men's tournament – at the Thomas and Mack Center.
As of now, the women's basketball team will have four dates that will pair with the men's program for a doubleheader in Moby Arena. Those dates could change pending TV selections – Nov. 11 vs. Montana, Dec. 3 vs. Western Michigan, Jan. 7 vs. New Mexico and Feb. 4 vs. Wyoming.
Colorado State finished the 2021-22 season with a 21-12 overall mark and a 9-9 league record. The Rams were named the No. 6 seed for the Mountain West Tournament and made an impressive run to the Mountain West Championship game, knocking off No. 3 Wyoming and No. 2 New Mexico on the way.
