Rams Head to New Mexico, Air Force This Week

Colorado State will travel for the first time in two weeks and to play the Lobos and Falcons

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State will play away from Moby Arena for the first time in two weeks, heading to The Pit to face New Mexico on Thursday night. The Rams will continue action on Saturday at USAFA playing the Falcons.

Tip Off
Colorado State will play away from Moby Arena after play three-consecutive games at home last week, posting a 2-1 mark against Mountain West opponents. The Rams will head to New Mexico and Air Force this week, playing on Thursday and Saturday.
 
Recapping Last Week
CSU played three games at Moby Arena last week, posting a 2-1 record. McKenna Hofschild average 20.7 points/game with 7.67 assists/game. Destiny Thurman and Cailyn Crocker also averaged double figures at 15.7 and 14.7. Cali Clark pulled down 11 rebounds/game, while also totaling 11 blocks.
 
Controlling The Paint
In the Rams home win against Nevada, Cali Clark pulled down a career-high 14 rebounds and added three blocks. Since the start of Mountain West play, the forward is averaging 7.6 rebounds and 2.0 blocks - both in the top in the conference and is one-of-two players in both categories (Shaiquel McGruder, UNM).
 
Leaving No Doubt
So far this season, Colorado State holds a +13.2 scoring margin - No. 40 in the nation. The Rams have had nine games where they defeated their opponent by 20+ points. In CSU's 13 wins, it holds a 22.0 win margin and a 17.5 margin in its six Mountain West victories.
 
Getting Buckets
McKenna Hofschild isn't afraid to pull the trigger. That's why she is on a 36-game streak where she has scored double-figure points. Last time she didn't score double figures was on Jan. 19, 2022 at Utah State when she scored seven. Since then, she is averaging 20.4 points/game with three games with 30+ points and 14 games with 20-plus points.
 
Nail Biters
In games that are decided by five points or less, the Rams are 0-4. CSU suffered a pair of losses to SEC programs Mississippi State and Auburn by a combined six points. CSU dropped both games against UNLV by a combined eight points, incluidng an overtime loss in the first meeting.
 
Too Close
The Rams have suffered six losses so far this season, posting just a -6.0 scoring margin which is one of the lowest in the country. Houston holds a 6-13 mark and a -5.46 scoring margin in its losses. Fordham is also close and holds a 12-7 record and a -6.7 margin.
 
Home Sweet Home
When playing in Moby Arena, Colorado State is 10-2 overall, averaging 76.5 points per contest, while also keeping opponents to 61.2 points (+15.3 margin).
 
Getting Dubs
Head Coach Ryun Williams reached 200 wins at Colorado State after a 64-58 victory in the Mountain West opener against Fresno State. Williams is in his 11th season for the Rams and is the winningest coach in program history.
 
Hitting 1K
Both McKenna Hofschild and Meghan Boyd reached 1,000 career points this season. Hofschild became the 20th Stalwart Ram to reach 1,000 career points at Colorado State in the dominating win against Denver. Boyd also reached 1,000 career points in the game against Regis after playing her first three seasons at Denver.
 
Chasing History
McKenna Hofschild is chasing Stalwart company. The senior has dished out 471 assists while at Colorado State. The guard is one-of-three in program history, to record 1,000 points and 400-plus assists, joining Ellen Nystrom and Becky Hammon. Hofschild is No. 4 in career assists behind Dee Dee Dominguez at 523.
 
Make It A Double
Three Rams have recorded a double-double so far this season. Destiny Thurman was most recent with 20 points, 11 boards at Boise State. McKenna Hofschild has totaled two double-doubles with points and assists and Joseana Vaz recorded her first double-double in the Green and Gold at Northern Colorado.
 
Protect The Rock
Colorado State doesn't turn the ball over much at all, which is why it leads the nation in fewest turnovers per game with 8.5. The Rams have forked the ball over just 162 times, the lowest in the country. The next team in turnovers/game averages 2.0 more at 10.5 (Villanova).


Ratio'd
Colorado State takes care of the ball, while also moving it around to create assists. The Rams enter their 11th week leading the country in assist/turnover ratio at 1.83. McKenna Hofschild is No. 1 in the country with a 4.41 mark, having just 32 turnovers and 141 assists in 19 contests. Last season she finished the year at No. 5 in the nation with a 3.00 ratio.
 
Tis The Season
The Rams were in the holiday spirit as they dished out a season-high 28 assists in the blowout win against Denver on Dec. 6. The 28 were the most since the 2018-19 season against Chadron State - also 28 assists.
 
Out Of Breath
The Rams played three games over five days at the end of November, including a pair of back-to-back contests at the Las Vegas Invitational. CSU returned from Vegas and played at Northern Colorado just two days later, going into triple overtime for the first time since 2014. Colorado State trailed nearly the whole game in regulation before forcing the overtime periods.
 
Weekly Honors
McKenna Hofschild has earned a pair of Mountain West weekly awards already this season, being name the Player of the Week twice by the league. Hannah Ronsiek also has been named Freshman of the Week after the season-opening weekend.

Getting Benched – The Good Kind
Colorado State started the 2022-23 season against BYU, exploding in the second half outscoring the Cougars, 47-23, to cruise to an 82-62 win. The Rams' bench did a lot of the heavy lifting – scoring 40 points, nearly the total of BYU starters. CSU trailed at the half 39-35, but flipped a switch in the second, hitting 8-of-12 from three to break the opener wide open. Cailyn Crocker led the bench players scoring 17 points – second most on the team behind McKenna Hofschild with 18.
 
Last Time Against New Mexico
The Rams faced the Lobos earlier this season in Moby Arena, earning a 76-65 win. Colorado State led wire-to-wire behind McKenna Hofschild's 24 points and eight assists. Cailyn Crocker added 16 points, while Destiny Thurman handled the boards with 10. CSU shot 46.4% in the win and dominated the paint scoring 40 points. Colorado State attempted just 12 three-pointers - a season low - finishing 4-of-12 from behind the arc.

New Mexico Series History
The Rams and Lobos will meet for the second time this season after a 76-65 home victory in Moby Arena. CSU trails the series 40-48 and is 13-29 while playing in The Pit, including a six-game skid dating back to the 2017-18 season.
 
Air Force Series History
CSU and AF will play for the 69th time overall, as Colorado State leads the series 51-17, including a 25-13 mark in Clune Arena.
