Rams Come Up Short at Air Force

Colorado State suffered its sixth loss of the season in games decided by five-or-fewer points
USAFA, Colo. – After trailing by as many as 17 points in the second half, Colorado State took the lead in the fourth quarter, but could not complete the comeback, suffering a 67-65 loss at Air Force on Saturday afternoon. The Rams are 0-6 this season in games that are decided by five-or-fewer points.

Colorado State was out-rebounded, 45-30 and allowed Air Force to add 10 points on second-chance points on 14 offensive boards.

McKenna Hofschild led the Rams offense, scoring 29 points on 10-of-18 and handed out four of CSU's eight assists. Cailyn Crocker and Kendyll Kinzer added double-figures, while both pulling down four boards apiece. The Rams also put up five blocks with two coming from Destiny Thurman.

Colorado State took the lead early in the game, but Air Force went on a 12-2 run to take the advantage. The Falcons also went 10-for-16 from the floor, including a perfect 4-for-4 from behind the arc to lead 27-17. CSU struggled from deep, missing both 3-point attempts and shooting 47 percent in the first 10 minutes.

The second quarter saw a combined 19 points scored, with the Rams making just two buckets and the rest coming from the free-throw line. AF extended its lead to 39-24 at the break, adding another pair of threes during the frame.

Air Forced built its largest lead of the game early in the third at 41-24, but Colorado State trimmed that down to just five after outscoring the Falcons 24-14 in the frame. The Rams shot 57% on 8-of-14 and 6-of-9 from behind the arc, including a last second three by Kinzer.

Colorado State retook the lead with 7:57 left to play after Hofschild made a pair of three throws to put the score at 56-55. Air Force took the lead after layup at 6:25 before nearly 3:30 minutes went by without a bucket from either team. Both teams traded baskets with under three minutes to play and CSU took a one point lead with 48 seconds left. The Falcons took a two-point lead after scoring a 3-pointer with 30 seconds left. CSU trailed by one after missing a free throw, but also had an opportunity to tie the game in the final possession but couldn't get it to drop.
