Rams Return Home for Two In-state Rivals

10/11/2023 9:00:00 AM | Women's Soccer

Colorado State will play its first home matches of October

FORT COLLINS- Colorado State (7-4-3, MW: 2-2-2) will host a pair of Colorado Springs teams this week when it plays Colorado College (2-10-1, MW: 2-4-0) on Thursday at 3 p.m., and Air Force (5-7-1, MW: 2-3-1) at 1 p.m., on Sunday. It will be the first time the Rams play at home since their draw with UNLV on September 24th.

The squad is coming off another unbeaten week with a 1-0 win over Fresno State on Thursday and a high scoring draw with San Jose State on Sunday. The Rams have moved into fifth place in the Mountain West with five matches left before the Mountain West Championships in Laramie at the end of the month.

The Rams will be on the prowl for their second win against Colorado College, a team they have struggled against over the course of their program history. The Tigers hold a 5-1-3 record against the Rams including a 1-0 win in 2022. However, the last time the Tigers were in Fort Collins in 2021, it was the team's first win over Colorado College. The Tigers lost their match with UNLV on Sunday 2-1 following a win against Nevada on Thursday. Colorado College currently sits in the bottom three of the conference with five matches remaining.

Colorado State has had success against the Falcons in recent years with the last loss coming in 2015. Since then, the Rams have a 3-0-3 record against Air Force. The Falcons are coming off a split week with a one-goal win against UNLV and a 1-0 loss to Nevada on Sunday. They currently sit in seventh in the conference, just outside the top six which will make the championships.

Sophomore Olivia Fout netted two goals on Sunday, bringing her season total to 10. She now sits one goal behind the record for most goals in a single season, set by Caeley Lordemann in 2019. Fout has scored in eight of the Rams' 14 matches this season. Her point total for the season is now at 21, good enough for most in the Mountain West.

Three Rams players have played in every minute this season: Shayna Ross, Avery Vander Ven and Kaitlyn Abrams. All three have been monumental pieces to the Rams' conference leading five shutouts this season. Vander Ven has also contributed offensively in 2023 with four assists, fourth most among Mountain West players. She also netted her first goal as a Ram on Thursday with her game-winner against Fresno State on Thursday.

Both matches this week can be streamed on themw.com
