Spartans and Bulldogs on the schedule this week for Colorado State
FORT COLLINS- Colorado State (6-4-2) will head to California this week for two matches with Fresno State (1-5-6) on Thursday (7 p.m.), and San Jose State (3-4-5) on Sunday (1 p.m.) It will be the Rams' final two-match road trip of 2023.Â
The Rams are coming off a week in which they dropped both matches. Thursday's meeting with Utah State finished 1-0 and was just the third time the squad has been held scoreless in 2023. Sunday's 4-1 loss to Boise State kept the Rams out of the win column for the fifth time in six matches.Â
Keeley Hagen's group ranks fourth in the Mountain West in goals allowed with 13, an average of 1.08 goals allowed per match. Sophomore forward Olivia Fout scored her eighth goal of the season on Sunday. That tally moved her into second most in a single season behind Caeley Lordemann in 2019 (11). Â
Colorado State currently sits eighth in the conference standings with four weeks left in the regular season. Thursday's opponent, Fresno State, ranks in the bottom three in the conference standings with a 0-1-3 record. The Bulldogs battled UNLV to a scoreless draw on Sunday after another one-goal draw on Thursday against Nevada. The Bulldogs single win this season came during their nonconference slate with a 2-1 win over CSU Bakersfield. Â
San Jose State will finish its week with a matchup with the Rams after hosting Wyoming on Thursday. The 2022 Mountain West Tournament champions are currently one spot ahead of the Rams in the conference standings with five points to the Rams' four. The Spartans picked up their first conference win of the season last week with a 3-0 win over UNLV before dropping Sunday's match to Nevada 2-0. Â
The Rams allowed a season-high four goals against the Broncos on Sunday, but have an opportunity to get right defensively when they visit the Bulldogs on Thursday. Fresno State is currently last in the Mountain West in goals this season with seven through 12 matches.Â
