Colorado State picks up first top 10 win since 1984
KANSAS CITY – A Thanksgiving for the record books. Colorado State routed No. 8 Creighton 69-48 to win the Hall of Fame Classic and pick up the team's first top 10 win since 1984. It's only the fifth time defeating a top 10 team in program history.
Â
In a game that featured two of the top offenses in the nation, it was the Ram's defense that made the biggest impact. CSU held Creighton to 27.9% shooting and their lowest points total since 2022.
Â
Holding a team to 27.9% shooting is the second-lowest mark by a CSU opponent ever.
Â
While the Rams won by 21 points, it did not come without adversity. Starting big man Patrick Cartier left just a few minutes into the game and didn't return with a back injury and back-up big man Kyle Evans was battling a stomach bug throughout the game.
Â
Despite all the challenges CSU never flinched clamping down on the defensive end and holding steady offensively. Senior Isaiah Stevens was his typical self, showing why he's one of the best point guards in the country. He finished with 20 points, six rebounds and seven assists on the way to being named the tournament MVP.
Â
Freshman Rashaan Mbemba picked up big time in the absence of Cartier scoring 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting while grabbing four rebounds as well.
Â
What's Ahead
Colorado State returns home to host rival Colorado on Wednesday, November 29. The Rams and Buffs tip off at 7 pm as part of a Stripe Out at Moby Arena on CBS Sports Network.
