Rams to Open Season at the Mines Alumni Classic

Colorado State will travel to Golden for its indoor season opener
FORT COLLINS – The stage is set and the Colorado State track and field men's and women's teams will mark the beginning of the indoor season Friday and Saturday at the Mines Alumni Classic. Overall, 26 men and 23 women will compete over the two days.

- The Mines Alumni Classic will be hosted by the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo. All events will take place in the Steinhauer Fieldhouse.Â
- The meet will unfold over the course of two days. Field events will start at 4:30 p.m. Friday with long jump and pole vault, followed by shot put at 5:30 p.m. Throwers will kick things off Saturday morning at 9:30 with triple jump taking place at 11 a.m. followed by high jump at 1:30 p.m. Track events will start at 1Â p.m. Saturday with the women's 60-meter hurdles preliminaries.Â
- Colorado State's throwers, jumpers and sprinters will be the specialty groups traveling to this first meet.Â

Meet Notes:
- Ten of the 49 Rams will be competing in their first indoor meet with Colorado State as freshmen this upcoming weekend.
- Allam Bushara, Mariano Kis, Drew Thompson, Michaela Hawkins, and Celyn Stermer will lead the team as the graduate student-athletes competing.
- A two-time Mountain West champion in the triple jump, Bushara enters his fifth season as a Ram. He competed in 11 meets last season between both indoor and outdoor.Â
- Coming off of a first-place finish in shot put with a mark of 18.27 meters at the 2023 Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Kis will also be beginning his fifth year at Colorado State this weekend.Â
- Securing top positions at the 2023 Mountain West indoor and outdoor championships in heptathlon and decathlon, Thompson is set to guide the Rams multi team in his fifth season.Â
- Hawkins finished last season with an All-Mountain West accolade and four top 20 appearances in shot put, weight throw and discus between both indoor and outdoor season.
- Competing in pole vault, Stermer placed second at the 2023 Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships with a mark of 4.08 meters last season. Stermer will also be representing the Rams in her fifth season.
