Rams compete in both Albuquerque and Seattle

ALBUQUERQUE N.M. – The Colorado State track and field team competed in both the Don Kirby Invitational hosted by New Mexico and the Husky Invitational hosted by Washington Friday with the day including two school records being broken in Seattle.

With Colorado State's distance runners making the trip to Washington, Emily Chaston started the historic night with a record-breaking run in the women's 3,000-meter event. The senior ran the race in 9:17.99 seconds, breaking the school record by nine seconds. Her previous personal best of 9:31.85 ranked fifth all-time in school history.

Sarah Carter followed her teammate up with a record setting run of her own in the women's 5,000-meter run. The fifth-year senior finished fourth overall in the event, but with a time of 15:45.63, she notched herself in the top spot in Rams' history. Breaking the previous school record by over 20 seconds, teammate Annabel Stafford also ran under the old school record time and has now placed herself in the number two spot in CSU history.

Mason Brown and Michael Mooney rounded out the success of the Rams in Washington as Mooney ran the men's 3,000-meter run in 8:03.92 seconds, moving him up to the fifth best time in school history while Brown followed up with a similar performance in the men's 5,000-meter as the fifth year senior also set a new personal best and moved into the top five in school history with a time of 13:57.41 seconds.

At the Don Kirby Invitational, the Rams saw their highest level of competition yet with schools from all over the western half of the country. Sophomore Cole Nordman was one of the top performers for the Rams as he placed fourth out of 40 athletes in the men's unseeded 200-meter dash with a personal best time of 21.40.

Taye Raymond was also a top ten finisher with a ninth place finish in the long jump. Just .03 meters under her personal best, Raymond jumped a 5.99-meter mark. Mya Lesnar finished eighth in the women's weight throw with a throw of 19.02.

Both meets will continue tomorrow as the Don Kirby Invitational starts at 8:30 a.m. from Albuquerque and the Husky Invitational will resume at 3:30 p.m. from Seattle.
