Colorado State to Compete in Albuquerque and Seattle

Rams will participate in one last meet before Indoor Mountain West Championship
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State Track and Field team will once again split its competition load this weekend, traveling to the Don Kirby Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico and the Husky Invitational in Seattle, Washington both Friday and Saturday.

Colorado State sprinters, multis and field athletes will travel south to Albuquerque while the Rams' distance crew will make the trip north to Seattle. The Don Kirby Invitational will kick off Friday morning at 10 a.m. with the men's pole vault while the Husky Invite will start Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. with seven heats of the women's 3000-meter run.

The Don Kirby Invitational will be the last meet the Rams compete in before the 2023 Indoor Mountain West Championship meet later this month which will take place on the exact same track in Albuquerque. Multiple Rams currently sit on top of the Mountain West rankings, including junior pole vaulter Celyn Stermer. Stermer is coming off a first-place finish at the Invitational at the Peak and currently ranks first in the conference with a season high mark of 4.13 meters.

Colorado State's jump team is also looking to maintain momentum in the conference standings with Taye Raymond currently ranked second in the long jump and Lexie Keller currently ranked third in the high jump. The men's jump team will be headlined by Allam Bushara, the first-place ranked triple-jumper in the Mountain West and Elijah Scott, who ranks second in the high jump. Â

The Rams' throw team also continues the tradition of finding themselves in the top ranks of the conference with Mariano Kis currently ranked first in shot put and second in the weight throw. On the women's side, Mya Lesnar is ranked second in the Mountain West for shot put and first in the weight throw.

Track events will begin at 1:30 from Albuquerque with hurdlers Jahzara Davis and Germain Barnes both looking to climb the ladder in the 60-meter-hurdles as Barnes ranks second in the conference on the men's side while Davis ranks third for the women. Freshman Tyler Colwell will headline Colorado State's sprinting core as he sits in the top ten of both the men's 60-meters and 200-meters.
Colorado State's distance runners will begin their meet at Washington with the 3000-meter run followed by the mile run. Sarah Carter and Annabel Stafford rank third and fifth respectively in the Mountain West in the 3000-meter run while Thomas Chaston and Tom Oates rank fourth and eighth respectively in the conference's men's mile event.
