Rams Finish Up Time at Don Kirby and Husky Invitationals

Davis and Willems climb into the top-three performances in the conference
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Colorado State track and field team has finished its time in Albuquerque and Seattle as the Rams travel back to Fort Collins after competing in day two of both the Don Kirby Invitational and Husky Invitational Saturday morning.

In Albuquerque, three Rams set new season bests in the men's 200 meter including Cole Nordman who ran a time of 21.40 seconds, Tom Willems who ran a 21.49 second 200 and Carson Bruns who finished in 21.69 seconds.

Willems continued his season best outing in Albuquerque with a personal record in the men's 400 meter. Placing 11th in the event with a time of 46.86 seconds, Willems moves into the top three times in the Mountain West. Also moving into the top three in her best event was sophomore Jahzara Davis who ran a personal best time of 8.48 seconds in the women's 60 meter hurdles. With just two weeks until the 2023 Indoor Mountain West Championship Meet, both Willems and Davis will carry momentum with them into the off week.

Junior Levi Killian recorded a new season best time in the men's 800 meter with a mark of 1: 53.08 seconds, good for the fifth best time in the Mountain West this season while Dawson Besst had the best performance of his career in the men's mile recording a time of 4:18.34 seconds. Teammate Maximilliano Martinez also recorded a new PR in the men's mile with a time of 4:21.06.

Back on the women's side, three Rams recorded a new season best in the women's 400 meter. Grace Goldsworthy recorded a time of 55.19 seconds, jumping her up to the 7th best time in the Mountain West ahead of the conference championship meet. Yolanda Johnson and Neya Jamison also recorded new season bests with Johnson finishing with a time of 55.96 seconds and Jamison finishing with a time of 56.87 seconds.

From Seattle, success in the men's mile continued as both Tom Oates and Thomas Chaston finished with their fastest times of the season. Oates placed twenty-first in the event with a time of 4:02.59 and Chaston set a personal record of his own with a time of 4:04.13 seconds.

All eyes for the Rams now point to the 2023 Indoor Mountain West Championship meet, taking place on the exact same track in Albuquerque in just under two weeks. Taking the weekend off from competition this upcoming week, Colorado State will finalize its entry list as the women's team looks to defend their conference championship from last season. The meet will kick off Thursday, February 23 from New Mexico.
